Whey RO Operator
Supervisor’s Title: Whey Team Lead
Department: Whey Production
Exempt Status: Hourly
MWC is a state of the art cheese and whey production facility in St. Johns, MI. MWC is a joint venture between Glanbia Nutritionals, Dairy Farmers of America (DFA) and Select Milk Producers Inc. (Select).
Job Summary
Operates membrane plants, bulk chemical, slops transfer, permeate transfer, and water.
Essential Functions
Responsible for the smooth production of whey permeate and water during the reverse osmosis, COP, and CIP processes.
Ensures the smooth flow of production by verifying motor and pump operation, correct product flow to the silo, correct operation of ratio control valve, run-time specifications, and completion of production log sheets
Ensures hourly readings and samples are taken and recorded to maintain proper pH levels, solids, color, chlorine, and temperature ranges according to specifications. Notifies the supervisor if any readings are out of the specified acceptable ranges.
Performs weekly membrane testing through locating leaking vessels and isolating them, replacing membranes and o-rings as needed, and recording any changes made. Works with maintenance on testing.
Ensures that the product is correctly coded.
Communicates effectively with Proliant to ensure smooth product transfer
Performs CIP by ensuring the machine is shut-down properly, changing flow board jumpers to CIP settings, performing machine change over to CIP on the computer, completing the CIP log, performing chemical testing, and verifying completion and effectiveness.
Responsible for timely and accurate reports of process loss turned in daily to the supervisor for recording of the product wasted.
Performs routine maintenance on the necessary equipment.
Maintain a clean work environment
Attend required training and take required quizzes to be proficient in room
Responsible for completing all safety activities, plant meetings, near misses, and BBSs.
Complete all job activities following set safety and operational SOP’s.
Keeps records in accordance with good manufacturing processes and local and state laws.
Utilizes GPS processes, driving zero losses, and upholds the culture of MWC non-negotiables.
Each employee shall comply with occupational safety and health standards and all rules, regulations, and orders issued pursuant to the Occupational Safety and Health Act, which are applicable to his/her own actions and conduct.
Complies with all applicable food safety regulations and mandates (Safe Quality Foods, Food and Drug Admin, Pasteurized Milk Ordinance)

Qualifications
Forklift and scissor lift certification.
Excellent attendance and safety record.

Typical Physical Activity Physical Demands
Regularly involves, talking or listening, sitting, and the use of hands and fingers.
Frequently involves reaching with hands and arms, standing, and walking.
Occasionally involves crouching, stooping, and/or kneeling. Physical Requirements Must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds. Manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items, works with the fingers, and perceive attributes of objects and materials. Involves moderate physical activity performing strenuous day activities of a primarily productive/technical nature. Should be able to judge distances and spatial relationships.
Typical Environmental Conditions
May be exposed to loud noise levels (i.e., manufacturing equipment).
May work near mechanical moving parts and in cold temperatures.
Travel Requirements
Minimal travel limited within the local area.
