Glades Talent is representing a standout Ophthalmic Clinic looking to bring aboard a talented Intake Technician.

RESPONSIBILITY
The Intake Technician is responsible for documenting information in the medical record and performing tests and procedures to prepare the patient for diagnostic imaging and/or a physician exam.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
The Intake Technician has a complex dual reporting relationship and does not supervise others.

  • The Intake Technician is accountable to the Intake Technician Supervisor for compliance with the policies, procedures, and protocols established by the practice.
  • During each shift the Intake Technician works under the direction of an assigned physician.
  • If an Intake Technician believes that the direction of a physician does not comply with a policy, protocol or procedure as understood by the Intake Technician, the Intake Technician will follow the physician direction and contact the Intake Technician Supervisor for clarification.
  • An Intake Technician may refuse to follow the direction of a physician when the Intake Technician believes that such direction will violate the law or harm a patient.

JOB DUTIES

PATIENT INTAKE

  • Prepare intake rooms at the beginning of each shift, ensuring that equipment functions properly and is clean and disinfected, battery powered equipment is charged, and supplies are available for the shift.
  • Report any problems with equipment or shortage of supplies to the physician and other staff as required by TRI work processes.
  • Greet patients in the waiting area and accompany them into the intake room.
  • Intake documentation of the patient’s chief complaint, history of present illness, review of systems, and other pertinent information as required.
  • Perform standard intake testing, including visual acuity, tonometry, and extraocular muscle function, confrontation visual fields, and pupillary function.
  • May perform other testing as requested, including OCT, color vision testing, lensometry, and automated perimetry.
  • Clean and disinfect equipment and furnishings between patients as required by TRI policy and procedures.
  • Review and complete documentation and coding in the EMR after each encounter, ensuring that it is free of errors.
  • Prepares for procedures by setting up injections and lasers and educating patients and their families about the procedure.
  • Assists the assigned physicians in providing in office procedures as directed by the physician.
  • Remove and apply dressings as needed.
  • Inventory and maintain instruments and supplies in intake and procedure rooms.
  • Assist other team members in maintaining patient flow by working at the front desk and performing imaging studies within the Intake Technician’s capabilities.
  • Close intake rooms at the end of each shift, ensuring that equipment functions properly, battery powered equipment is charging, and equipment is turned off and under covers.

GENERAL DUTIES

  • Read, understand, and comply with all policies and procedures as outlined in the TRI Employee Handbook.

WORKING CONDITIONS
The Intake Technician works in office settings that are well ventilated and well lighted and may occasionally experience high levels of stress in meeting the responsibilities of the position. The job may require occasional travel to remote offices, long workdays, and work after normal business hours or on the weekend.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Adequate corrected hearing and visual acuity to perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Clearly speak English and articulate and present information to employees and the public.
  • Lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Stand and walk for an entire work shift with minimal breaks.
  • Move quickly for an entire shift if needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

The Intake Technician requires a combination of education and experience that demonstrates the knowledge and skill to perform the essential functions of the position, which is normally attained through a high school diploma, and completion of an intake technician training program. In addition to relevant education and experience, this position requires a person with the following skills and personal characteristics.

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Computer literacy and keyboarding skills.
  • Basic math and spelling skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with physicians, staff, and patients.
  • Strong service attitude and the desire to serve others.
