Girls Preparatory School is Hiring a Part-Time Classical Guitar Instructor Near Chattanooga, TN

ABOUT GIRLS PREPARATORY SCHOOL:

Girls Preparatory School (GPS) was founded in 1906 to provide girls with the necessary courses to pursue a college education. GPS has proudly graduated almost 6,000 young women. Currently, 130 faculty and staff serve approximately 520 in grades 6-12 with a college preparatory curriculum that includes a full complement of humanities, arts, and STEM courses and co curricular programs of leadership development, athletics, and community engagement. 

ABOUT CADEK CONSERVATORY OF MUSIC

Cadek Conservatory of Music, founded in 1904, is a conservatory for everyone. We offer private and group music lessons for all ages, skill levels, and instruments at our three locations—Girls Preparatory School, The Bright School, and McCallie School.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

This position reports to the Cadek Director and is part of the team of instructors at the Conservatory who provide after-school lessons at Cadek’s primary location—Girls Preparatory School. We anticipate that our classical guitar instructor will need to teach 2-3 days per week. The ability to teach a half-day on Saturday is highly desirable.

The primary function of this role is to provide private classical guitar lessons to children and adults of all ages and skill levels. The ideal candidate will, in addition to teaching classical guitar, also be able to teach an additional stringed instrument, such as (but not limited to) electric guitar or bass, mandolin, or banjo.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Actively recruit and maintain a studio of classical guitar students at Cadek Conservatory of Music.
  • Teach individual lessons to assigned students, beginning through advanced levels, ages 7 and up 
  • Provide each student with the appropriate amount of purchased lessons, adhering to the school calendar.
  • Prepare students with performance etiquette for recitals. 
  • Hold one (1) studio recital each fall and spring semester as well as have selected students perform in Cadek Community Recitals (fall and spring). 
  • Prepare qualified students to participate in Cadek Scholarship Auditions and other Cadek sponsored performance opportunities.
  • Conference with parents and students to address problems or provide direction on students' musical development.
  • Perform administrative tasks associated with students’ attendance, scheduling, and communications.
  • Create and host group classes, workshops, or camp opportunities throughout the year. 

DESIRED SKILLS, EXPERIENCES, REQUIREMENTS, and CHARACTERISTICS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Music required, with an emphasis in classical guitar
  • Experience in music instruction, as an instructor and musician, preferred.
  • Ability to teach a second stringed instrument (such as, but not limited to, electric guitar, electric bass, mandolin, or banjo) is highly desirable but not required
  • Personal commitment to confidentiality and value of an all-girls education. 
  • Demonstrated personal alignment with the school’s mission and values 
  • Extraordinary attention to detail and responsiveness to families.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication and organizational skills are essential.
