Job Description

The Assistant Teacher’s primary responsibility will be supporting the Lead Facilitator throughout daily activities and implementing academic enrichment through Differentiated Literacy Instruction (DLI). DLI will occur during life skills instruction time, at which time the Assistant Teacher will pull students for small-group instruction.

Responsibilities

  • Commit to consistently and reliably assisting with programming daily for the entirety of the scheduled time;
  • Actively support during all programming activities to maintain a productive and safe environment
  • Report directly to the Lead Facilitator for tasks and assignments
  • In the event of Lead Facilitator’s absence, lead programming following the given expectations and lesson plans 
  • Lead small group Differentiated Literacy Instruction (DLI) sessions by pulling out girls performing in the “frustrational range” using resources provided to incorporate active reading and comprehension strategies;
  • Use tracking system and direct communication with classroom teachers to confirm homework assignments and satisfactory completion
  • Gather and analyze data, including DLI-specific testing, Report Cards and iReady reports, to support data-driven small group intervention and other programmatic needs 
  • Attend and actively participate in professional learning and development as determined by Girls Inc, including but not limited to Trust Academy and. and weekly check-ins;
  • Support planning and implementation of special events/projects in conjunction with the Lead Facilitator and other staff/volunteers from Girls Inc. of Greater Miami; 
  • Maintaining a productive work environment where materials are available, area is quiet and norms for the space are established and followed;

Qualifications

  • A strong and confirmed background in classroom management, preferably of 20 upper elementary students
  • A background in reading instruction, including bachelor’s level professionals with relevant reading instruction experience, through volunteer or paid work in private or charter schools, teachers working towards certification, retired teachers or those no longer maintaining an active certification, or early childhood teachers with associates degrees (DCF certified); etc.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of child growth and development, with a focus on girls;
  • Committed to working with youth from a variety of demographics and communities and possess a high level of competency in cultural, linguistic, familial, ability, etc. diversity;
  • Foundational awareness of life skills and willingness to engage in ongoing training;
  • Must be punctual, prepared, have a positive attitude and adept at multitasking and using a variety of lively program techniques (brainstorming, role-playing, etc.);
  • Must be self-directed, detail-oriented with proven written and oral communication skills, 
  • Must be a high-energy, caring, self-starter, innovative 
  • Organized and able to effectively maintain information for recording purposes and standards of record keeping;
  • Proficient in Google Workspace or similar software;
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to relate effectively and work collaboratively with youth, families and professionals;
