Girl Scouts of Western Washington is Hiring a Program Director- Summer Season 2024 Near Lilliwaup, WA

Description

Camp Robbinswold is located on Hood Canal, part of the Puget Sound. Our program primarily focuses on trip and travel opportunities including but not limited to sea kayaking, canoeing, backpacking, hiking, and watersports. Our waterfront is the hub of activity during the summer season, it is the location of our swim area, boat ramp, and Marine Biology center. We strive to offer a premier outdoor experience for all campers. 

The Program Director will enrich the camper’s experience by providing fun, camper-planned activities to supplement the regular unit program, assist with the training of camp staff in their specified duties under their management, train, supervise, and schedule specialty staff on their weekly duties. The Program Director is responsible for scheduling, ensuring training, coaching and overseeing the specialist positions throughout the summer.

General Responsibilities  

  • Ensure the safety of campers and staff, work areas, and activities are safe and meet the requirements of the American Camp Association, GSUSA Safety Activity Checkpoints, and GSWW
  • Serve as an active member of the camp management staff
  • Coordinate communication across all aspects of the camper experience, including but not limited to creating schedules, working with other managers to ensure programming content is executed, etc.
  • Assist in directing, supervising, and organizing camp activities to meet the intended camper outcomes
  • Responsible for observing camper and staff behavior, assessing its appropriateness, enforcing appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and applying appropriate behavior-management techniques
  • Maintain effective working relationships with staff and create harmonious relationships with campers, parents, and staff
  • Responsible for check-in and check-out procedures and other assigned duties and responsibilities
  • Organize and implement all non-program-specific camp activities, such as campfire, all camp events, special meals, camper council, banquet, etc.
  • Prepares and trains Summer Camp Staff
  • Provide quality guest service that resolves concerns in a timely manner

Minimum Qualifications

  • 21
  • High School Diploma/GED is required
  • Current CPR and First Aid or willingness to obtain via Girl Scouts
  • Ability to coordinate with and supervise staff utilizing team-building techniques
  • Experience organizing, supervising, and managing personnel
  • Exhibits mature decision-making and responsibility at all times including proven skills concerning risk management decision-making
  • Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to activities
  • Possess the strength and endurance required to maintain constant 24-hour supervision of campers and staff
  • Ability to hike 2 miles of uneven terrain, with a 5-pound pack 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience working in summer camp or Girl Scouts environment
  • Experience organizing and implementing camp programs with a high level of energy, creativity, and the ability to speak to a large group
  • Experience leading various camp activities such as hiking, outdoor cooking, canoeing, archery, mountain biking, arts and crafts, etc.
