Girl Scouts of Western Washington is Hiring a Pack Out & Kitchen Coordinator- Summer Season 2024 Near Allyn, WA

Description

This summer, Girl Scouts of Western Washington (GSWW) is offering the exciting opportunity for staff to experience summer at a beautiful lakefront camp property in Western Washington. Camp staff will live on-site at Camp St. Albans, at the base of the Olympic mountains on Lake Devereaux in Allyn, Washington. Camp staff will attend paid staff training.

The Pack Out & Kitchen Coordinator is vital in maintaining a successful workflow and overseeing a functioning summer camp kitchen. This position is responsible for acting as a liaison between the camp kitchen staff and the Camp Leadership staff, ensuring the facilitation of three meals per day for approximately 150-200 campers and adults. Along with the oversight of health standards in the camp kitchen and dining facilities, the Pack Out & Kitchen Coordinator is also responsible for administering food-based programming, including but not limited to, managing all aspects of the camper pack-out cooking program such as assisting with food planning and purchasing for the camp. The Pack Out & Kitchen Coordinator will enhance the overnight camp experience through positive interactions with campers and staff, attentiveness to food-related needs, and managing the camp dining experience.

 General Responsibilities  

  • Ensure work areas and activities are safe and meet the requirements of the American Camp Association, Washington Department of Health and GSWW food safety standards. 
  • Daily responsibility to ensure the dining room, kitchen and food storage areas meet Girl Scout, American Camp Association, and local health department standards and that state and local health laws are maintained and enforced in such areas as dishwashing, care of leftover foods, insect control, and fire safety. 
  • Plans nutritionally balanced alternative diet options within budget. 
  • Facilitates the dining experience in the Lodge by ensuring meal schedule flows properly.
  • Coordinates special diets and facilitates communication between summer camp kitchen staff and camper families, providing periodic reports to Camp Management.
  • Coordinates camper/staff meal planning and teaching with special activities such as cookouts, pack-outs, trail and trip cooking, programs that involve cooking/food, etc.
  • Ensures the health and safety of the campers and staff through proper administration of food service and handling techniques including accommodating dietary needs such as food allergies and sensitivities as needed, including but not limited to vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free meals.
  • Ensures harmonious running of camp by ensuring quality meals on time for everyone at camp. 
  • Provide quality customer service that resolves concerns in a timely manner. 
  • Training and supervising camp staff in kitchen/pack-out procedures and food handling.
  • Set a good example by modeling maturity, good communication, cleanliness, punctuality, sportsmanship, sharing, and adhering to GSWW camp policy, among other traits. 
  • Maintain a high level of personal hygiene and cleanliness.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ability to oversee operational workflow of a commercial overnight summer camp kitchen 
  • Ability to work and communicate successfully with youth and adults
  • Experience in large-volume seasonal summer camp cooking or relevant high-volume cooking 
  • Experience menu planning and design for all campers and emerging allergies and diet needs 
  • Able to stay organized and punctual 
  • Current WA State Food Handler’s card or willingness to obtain
  • Enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience, and self-control 
  • Ability to live and work closely with a small community of people all summer 
  • High School Diploma/GED required

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Previous experience working in an overnight camp setting. 
  • Previous Girl Scout experience 
  • Previous experience supervising staff.
  • High energy level, lots of creativity, and ability to speak to a large group 
  • Experience leading various camp activities such as hiking, outdoor cooking, canoeing, kayaking, backpacking, arts, and crafts, etc.
  • Age 25
  • Valid Driver’s license, clean driving record, and ability to drive a 12-passenger van.
