Girl Scouts of Western Washington is Hiring a Health Director: RN- Summer Season 2024 Near Allyn, WA

Description

This summer, Girl Scouts of Western Washington (GSWW) is offering the exciting opportunity for staff to experience summer at a beautiful lakefront camp property in Western Washington. Camp staff will live on-site at Camp St. Albans, at the base of the Olympic mountains on Lake Devereaux in Allyn, Washington. Camp staff will attend paid staff training. 

The Health Director: RN is responsible for the overall health and safety of the campers from the moment they arrive until the day they leave. They work with and train staff to conduct health checks daily and weekly for all campers and staff, administering first aid and medications as needed. Individuals in this position can work with varying age groups and program areas, as well as in different parts of camp every week. The Health Director: RN receives 2 hours off daily and a 24-hour break in between sessions.

General Responsibilities:

  • Manage health house operations including first aid, medication distribution, and caring for sick and injured campers and staff at all hours 
  • Train staff to monitor the health and safety of campers. Ensure staff are trained in camp’s written procedures including their role in health care and dealing with infectious waste and body fluids 
  • Make sure paperwork is completed promptly including health and medication logs 
  • Ensure that HIPPA, American Camp Association, Safety Activity Checkpoints, and Girl Scouts of Western Washington policies and standards are met in your area of responsibility
  • Communicate camper medical and dietary needs with unit and kitchen staff
  • Know and understand camp emergency procedures as well as participate in emergency drills and provide training for improvement 
  • Communicate with parents/guardians as needed on any camper concerns, and log all communication
  • Communicate the needs of any staff/campers needing doctor/hospital/ambulance attention

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current Nursing license
  • Desire and ability to supervise staff of various backgrounds, ages 18 and above, in an outdoor setting
  • Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activities
  • Possess the strength and endurance required to maintain constant 24-hour supervision of campers and staff
  • Current CPR and First Aid or willingness to obtain
  • College graduate or combination of education and experience
  • Enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience, and self-control
  • Ability to receive instruction and supervision
  • 25 years of age
  • Valid Driver’s license, 5 years driving experience, a clean 5-year driving record, and ability to drive a 12-passenger van

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience working in an overnight camp setting
  • Previous Girl Scout Experience
  • Previous experience supervising staff
  • High energy level, lots of creativity, and ability to speak to a large group
