 Summary:

Assist Property Staff and Camp Director with set-up of campsite, maintenance of grounds and facilities, and other seasonal -camp-related tasks as assigned. A large percentage of hours will be spent mowing/Weed whipping. Part-time, seasonal position: 20 - 30 hours per week, running approximately April through end of September.

 Essential Functions:

  • Large percentage of time spent on mowing grounds. 
  • Ensure that campsite is set-up, prepared and maintained for activities throughout the day.
  • Assist with property opening, cleaning, set-up and closure in accordance with camp procedures.
  • Assistance with maintenance of facilities, including but not limited to removal of debris, maintaining clean facilities throughout campsite, clearing of walking paths and waste removal as needed.
  • Support camp staff and property staff with loading and transportation of supplies.
  • Assist in light repairs of camp structures as needed.
  • Partner with Property Manager and Camp Director to ensure campers’ and staff safety, by immediately reporting any required repairs or potentially unsafe conditions in any part of the camp.
  • Create, complete and maintain records and prepare reports as appropriate.
  • Be readily available and willing to assist campers, camp staff, volunteers and visitors with various needs throughout the day, ensure completion of all assigned tasks and/or effectively communicate status as appropriate, and maintain excellent customer service with all.
  • Work closely with Property Manager and Camp Director on a daily basis to ensure optimal operations of camp.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • 1 year experience landscaping, building/grounds maintenance preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to accurately follow and understand instructions.
  •  Willing and physically able to work outdoors in all types of weather.
  • Facilitate with basic repairs (carpentry, light plumbing and general mechanical skills).
  • Basic knowledge of and willingness to learn, understand and adhere to safety protocols.
  • Must be able to use hand and power tools.
  • Must be able to wear and utilize all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Ability to work flexible hours throughout the camp season.
  • Must be able to self-transport to the camp and work independently.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Complete a background check
  • Commitment to the principles of the Girl Scouts movement.

Physical Requirements:

  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee may be required to sit or stand; walk on uneven surfaces; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs and ladders; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • The employee must be able to lift up to 50lbs.
  • Work is performed indoors and outdoors with regular exposure to insects and wildlife, weather conditions (i.e. extreme temperature, humidity, rain and snow). Exposure to dust and odors may occur.

 Girl Scout Membership:

All Employees of Girl Scouts must maintain an active, annual membership in Girl Scouts of Western New York. This membership must be renewed annually, and all newly hired employees are expected to enroll with GSWNY within the first 30 days of their employment.
