Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore is hiring for our upcoming summer at Camp Sacajawea! This will be a full time seasonal position with the opportunity to expand into a year round position.

Position Title: Custodial and Maintenance Assistant

Reports to: Property Director and Facility Rental Coordinator

Purpose: Under the direction of the Property Director and Facility Rental Coordinator, performs custodial duties and is responsible for the safety and upkeep of properties, facilities and equipment.

Duties:

Performs janitorial and general maintenance duties

• Sweep, scrub floors, wash windows and screens, etc.
• Maintain inventory of cleaning and paper supplies
• Maintain cleanliness of camp bathrooms including restocking bathroom supplies
• Collect and properly disposes of trash and recycling
• Helps to maintain the overall appearance of camp

Maintains properties

• Operates necessary grounds care equipment such as mower, string trimmer, chain saw, etc. in a safe and efficient manner.
• Is aware of and makes necessary changes to hazards found on camp grounds.
• Readies camp property for summer season by removing winter protections and repairing damage done by winter weather.

Performs all duties in accordance with prescribed regulatory compliance guidelines, including local, state and federal guidelines as well as American Camp Association accreditation standards.

• Assist with emergencies on site
• Maintain and check equipment for safety and make repairs when necessary.
• Follow schedule for checking physical property and equipment for safety, cleanliness and good repair
• Check and maintain general condition of vehicles including oil, anti-freezing and tire pressure levels.

Other job duties:

• Assist with camp program events and delivery of equipment
• Assists Property team with facility repair and improvement projects
• Assist in cleaning and maintenance of service centers
• Other duties as assigned

Job Qualifications:

• Able to work a flexible work schedule including weekends as needed
• A high school diploma or its equivalent
• Current certification in first aid and CPR is desirable
• Insurable (21 years old min.), with a valid Driver’s License and clean driving record
• A criminal background check is required.

Physical Aspects of the Position:

• Ability to understand and implement safety regulations and procedures
• Ability, both visual and auditory, to identify safety hazards and monitor guest and staff behavior and enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures
• Ability to walk, stand, bend and stretch
• Ability to lift, up to approximately 50 lbs. and occasional lifting of equipment weighing up to approximately 75 lbs. may be required.
• Ability to safely drive cars, light trucks, tractors and other motorized vehicles
• Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid.
• Must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness or injury).
• Ability to walk a least one mile over uneven terrain.
