The Healthcare Manager Overnight Healthcare Manager is responsible for the general health and safety of overnight campers and staff, maintaining the camp infirmary, administering medications and first aid care, reviewing health histories, health screening checks, and keeping accurate and detailed records.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
· Establish and maintain regular overnight infirmary hours. Conduct daily evening checks of the infirmary and equipment for safety, cleanliness, and good repair.
· Assure that local EMS services are aware of any camp special needs.
· Establish and follow appropriate medical routines, including record keeping in the daily nightly medical log, proper disposal of medical waste, managing and safeguarding medications, and utilizing approved standing orders.
· Provide first aid and care in case of illness or accident as directed by a physician; take responsibility for calling the physician and/or the caregiver and, when advisable, accompany the camper or staff on trips to a hospital.
· Requisition of necessary equipment and supplies throughout camp.
· During staff and camper check-in, collect all medications, store them in a locked cabinet, and dispense as indicated by the prescribing physician.
· Provide consultation with families at check-in on camper health concerns, review health histories and physicals, and provide campers lice screening and temperature checks.
· Notify the Program Engagement Manager - Outdoors or Director of Program Engagement when caregivers need to be notified of an accident, illness, or injury. Maintains phone log of all contacts.
· Complete and maintain necessary reports, such as daily nightly treatment logs, health department accident/illness reports, accident reports, and insurance claim forms.
· Monitor the health of all campers and staff.
· Work with council staff to provide training for overnightresident camp temporary staff.
· Submit a written evaluation of the camp at the end of the season/session.
· Meet with Program Engagement Manager - Outdoors and/or administrative staff as necessary.
· Willingness to stay on camp property during the duration of employment while campers are present.
QUALIFICATIONS
· First Aid and CPR certification (Youth Camp First Aid experience preferred)
· Willingness to complete Illinois Mandated Reporter training
· Be able to make decisions and act wisely in emergency situations
· Be at least 21 years of age
· Physical signed by a medical professional within the past 24 months
· Current driver’s license
· Willingness to complete Youth Mental Health First Aid training
· Ability to work with campers and staff members of diverse backgrounds
· Understanding and acceptance of the Girl Scout promise, law, beliefs, and principles.
· Willingness to become a member of Girl Scouts of the USA and consent to a criminal background check
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
· Willingness to perform tasks that involve the ability to exert light physical effort which may include some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling objects and materials of moderate weight (20-25 pounds)
· Daily/ Nightly exposure to seasonal weather conditions
· Sleep at camp with campers and staff during the overnight camp season
