The Girl Scout mission is to build girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place. Behind every Girl Scout and volunteer is a team of local staff ready to help them earn that next badge, embark on a camping adventure, or organize an impactful service project. We are Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey (GSNNJ) serving girls in grades K-12 in Bergen, Morris, Passaic, Sussex and northern Warren counties. We bring the Girl Scout Leadership Experience to 18,000 girls and 10,000 adult members.

We are looking for energetic, fun, organized, and caring staff to provide memorable experiences to girls in a safe and engaging environment! This position is responsible to further the mission of camp through assisting in the development and delivery basketball and/or pickleball skills that are safe, fun, and appropriate to campers’ ages and abilities, and ensuring safety and wellbeing of campers following State of New Jersey Office of Early Childhood and American Camping Association (ACA). They are responsible for the supervision and care of campers during designated/ specific activities and facilitating delivery of programs within a unit/small group.

 Responsibilities: 

• Effectively communicate and work with a diverse group of staff and campers (background/abilities) to encourage full participation in Girl Scouting. 
• Develop and implement an age-appropriate athletics curriculum to educate and inspire campers to participate in a variety of sports-related activities at camp 
• Activity areas include but are not limited to: basketball, pickleball, gaga, and field games 
• Maintain strict safety procedures set forth by GSNNJ 
• Maintain communication with Leaders and volunteers regarding campers’ behavior and supervision 
• Instruct and facilitate a group of up to 50 girls, providing fun, informative, and skill building athletic games and activities 
• Maintain cleanliness, organization, and safety of sports equipment and shed 
• Conduct safety orientation of equipment and safety procedures 
• Promote high morale 

Requirements

Qualifications: 

• 18 years age. 
• Experience in teaching, playing, or coaching athletics 
• Phys Ed teaching certification recommended, but not required 
• Ability to develop programs for Pickleball and/or Basketball, ability to use sound judgment regarding safety procedures, knowledge of the sport
• Individuals must be in physical condition to perform duties
• Knowledge of Girl Scouting, leadership skills, and proven instructional experience
• Individuals must be in physical condition to perform duties.
• Must be available for either the Fall or Spring Rental Seasons on Saturdays and Sundays 
• The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. 
• Must be able to work in a rustic camp environment with limited access to electricity, cell phone service and internet.
• Individuals must be able to walk around the wooded campgrounds with ease, use and move athletic equipment the shed to courts and fields. 
• The candidate must have experience working with children.

• During Program Hours: Site Manager 
• Outside of Program Hours: Camp Director and/or Outdoor Program Manager
