Girl Scouts of Northern California is Hiring an Associate Director, Adult Learning Near San Jose, CA

The Associate Director of Adult Learning will:

  • Support the growth of a $20 million nonprofit with over 150 full-time employees, 200 seasonal camp staff, and 22,000 youth and adult members.
  • Work closely with the Chief Strategy and Transformation Officer and other key stakeholders to implement best practice instructional design and facilitation principles for training and adult learning for staff and volunteers across the organization.
  • Develop high-quality programming and training content and associated resources for adults and girls to be delivered by you, staff, and volunteers in in-person and virtual formats.
  • Lead collaborations with departments across the organization to develop and implement trainings and adult learning for staff, volunteers, and girls.

Skills required to be successful in this role, include, but are not limited to:

  • Strong attention to detail to support training and resource development, the gsLearn learning management system, and internal processes and workflows
  • Strong presentation and facilitation skills, both in-person and virtual
  • Adult training and coaching skills
  • Instructional design skills
  • Understanding of child development principles
  • Maintain a strong understanding of the educational needs of target audiences and training needs on various Girl Scout platforms and systems
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite applications and customer relationship management tools (Salesforce) 
  • Confidence with developer tools (i.e, Adobe Creative Suite, Articulate, etc.)
  • Comfort with learning and using various virtual platforms and online tools and applications
  • Management across training projects
  • organization, coordination, and collaboration across and within multiple teams
  • defining purpose, objectives, and requirements
  • leading cycles of planning, implementation, review, and revision
  • manage the training calendar throughout the year
  • People management
  • Lead and coach a team of 3-5 adult learning staff
  • Strategic focus on aligning and improving training and adult learning across the organization, including identifying gaps and needs, updating curriculum to meet needs, and making recommendations to senior leadership
  • Lead the collection of data from staff and members (volunteers, girls) to assess training completion, goals, and continually improve trainings
  • Manage gsLearn, the learning management system
  • Review and publish all training modules
  • Monitor course completion and follow up with department teams to support completion
  • Coordinate communication with department teams around upcoming and in progress trainings
  • Attend GSUSA calls and keep up to date with LMS updates and program updates
  • Serve as Tier 2 support for gsLearn questions from members

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four years related experience and/or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • A minimum of 2 years experience in instructional design with an adult learning focus
  • A minimum of 2 years in working with communities in youth, family, and/or volunteer service organizations
  • Confident in the use of instructional design model(s) and processes for producing, deploying and measuring high-quality curriculum that achieves instructional objectives
  • Able to manage and support staff to manage multiple projects, multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced ever-changing environment
  • Able to project plan and manage initiatives using organizational, time-management and problem-solving skills
  • Strong data management and data analysis skills to perform day-to-day tasks and longer-term strategy and planning
  • Exceptional communication and teamwork skills; Strong oral and written communication skills (in-person, virtually, telephonic, email, etc.); Strong listening and comprehension skills
  • Proficient in cloud-based applications such as Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint, or Google Suite (Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, etc.)
  • Proficient in developer tools (Adobe Creative Suite, InDesign, Photoshop, Premier Pro, and Articulate)
  • Able to work a consistent schedule in a hybrid work setting and will be required to work in the Alameda or San Jose office at least 2 days per week.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule including pre-scheduled evenings and weekends
  • Able to attend pre-scheduled in-person activities and/or meetings across the assigned territory
  • Valid California Driver’s license, access to reliable transportation, proof of insurance
  • Able to pass Girl Scouts of Northern California’s background screening process (including fingerprinting, criminal education, social security and Department of Motor Vehicle verification)

Desired Qualifications:

  • Commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion with proven ability to work effectively with persons of diverse backgrounds and abilities; With the goal of creating safe spaces that empower our youth members
  • A proven track record in working with diverse communities
  • Knowledge of Girl Scout mission and programs
  • Bilingual in Spanish, or other language, and English. Staff who are proficient in reading/writing and speaking in another language and use their dual-language skills in their assigned job duties will be eligible for a stipend up to a maximum of $3,000 annually.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 lbs (boxes, materials, equipment)
  • Possess physical endurance including prolonged standing, bending, stooping and stretching
