Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts is Hiring an Assistant Camp Director Near Waltham, MA

Summer is calling! Are you ready to spend your summer leading a group of campers on a journey filled with amazing learning experiences, laughter, and lifelong memories? If you are up for the challenge, we want you to join our team as Assistant Camp Director! GSEMA has a day camp opening for an Assistant Camp Director at Camp Cedar Hill located in Waltham, MA.

We are looking for energetic individuals who have a passion for working with youth. Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts (GSEMA) offers invaluable skill-building, leadership, training, and enrichment opportunities that can’t be found anywhere else. So, whether you’re an experienced camp counselor or just looking to gain new experiences, we welcome you to apply.

Hours and Work Environment

Camp Dates are June 18 – August 10, 2024. Camp runs Monday – Friday and staff will have 40-hour work weeks. The camp season includes 1 week of training, beginning on June 18 and 6 weeks of camp.

Pay Rate:

$20.00 per hour with additional money-earning opportunities available: extended day, bus monitor, late-night sessions, etc.

An ASSISTANT CAMP DIRECTOR will:

  • Assist the Camp Director in all phases of the camp operation.
  • Work as a team with other administrative camp staff to evaluate, supervise, and make decisions regarding camp staff.
  • Oversee the planning of all camp activities and events, and coordinate unit program and out of camp trips.
  • Act as an integral and contributing member of the camp administrative team and assist with responsibilities, decision-making, program implementation and support services.
  • Assist with planning and implementation of all required pre-camp and in-service camp trainings and certifications in compliance with position qualifications and organization policies.
  • Provide supervision, and establish supportive relationships with camp staff.
  • Encourage respect for personal property, camp equipment, and facilities.
  • Set a good example for staff and campers, including cleanliness, punctuality, sharing clean-up, and participating in all camp activities.
  • Commit to our mission of building girls of courage, confidence and character, who make the world a better place.
  • Work with individuals of diverse backgrounds and ages, and accept the Girl Scout commitment to work with all without regard to age, race, ethnicity/culture, country of origin, religion, language, socio economic status, gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, neurodiversity, ability or political affiliation.

Is this you?

  • Age 21 by June 15, 2024.
  • Desire and ability to work with children outdoors.
  • Ability to assist in teaching an activity.
  • Enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience, self-control.
  • Ability to work within the camp environment (work may be indoors or outdoors and may be hot, humid, rainy or cool weather.)
  • Ability to be an effective member of the staff team.
  • Ability to effectively identify, analyze and solve practical problems and successfully manage a variety of variables and personalities; ability to adapt in a changing environment.

Other Requirements

  • Must become a registered Girl Scout.
  • Must complete a criminal background check.

Camp Cedar Hill in Waltham

Camp Cedar Hill offers campers entering kindergarten through 12th grade the life-changing experience of summer camp. A hop, skip, and a jump from Boston, on 75 acres of natural beauty, at Camp Cedar Hill, camper activities include archery, swimming in two pools, boating on the pond, high and low ropes challenge courses, and the alpine climbing tower—not to mention favorite camp activities like singalongs, and crafts.
