Camp Nurse

SUPERVISOR: Camp Director

DEPARTMENT: Camp

LEADERSHIP SUMMARY

The Camp Register Nurse will infuse and model the Girl Scout Law into their everyday work to fulfill the mission of building girls of courage, confidence and character who make the world a better place.

POSITION SUMMARY

Supervise and be responsible for the general health and safety of campers and staff in accordance with the standards set by Girl Scouts of the USA, the American Camp Association and Girl Scouts Diamonds of Arkansas, Oklahoma & Texas.

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Before and After Camp
  • Review campers' and staff medical info prior to their arrival and communicates with parents regarding medical questions.
  • Oversees the set up and closing of Health Center, including an inventory of all supplies and equipment, requesting supplies/equipment as needed.
  • Identify pertinent camper and staff medical needs (caution sheets, special diets, etc.) and ensure that information is communicated to appropriate camp staff.
  • Attend staff training and orientation.
  • Train staff of health and hygiene responsibilities and procedures.
  • During Camp
  • Oversees the health screening of campers (temperature, lice check) during check in.
  • Checks in and checks out all prescriptions and over-the-counter medications.
  • Assess and assist with the health and hygiene needs of campers and staff.
  • Safeguards camper and staff prescription and over the counter medications; administering the medications at the prescribed dosages and hours.
  • Keeps records regarding administration of medication, prescribed treatments, and other health and medical needs. Follow state and ACA standards in maintaining such records.
  • Maintains regular communication with camp director on health and hygiene concerns at camp.
  • Communicates with parents and counselors of camper's illnesss or injury.
  • Consult with On-Call doctor.
  • Maintain the inventory of First Aid kits and ensure they are stocked.

Other Job Duties

  • Communicates and cooperates with all staff. Express concerns in a professional manner at an appropriate time.
  • Expected to use computer to access and maintain electronic health record system daily.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND CREDENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Current and in good standing Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse license
  • Experience working with youth preferred
  • Knowledge of Girl Scout Leadership Experience (preferred)
  • First Aid and CPR certification (preferred)

  • Membership with GSUSA and Subscribes to the principles of the Girl Scout Movement
  • Demonstrate ability to successfully manage multiple priorities, work independently, and meet deadlines.
  • Strong human relations skills and ability to work well with others of diverse cultures
  • Ability to exercise good judgement
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Solution driven with the ability to effectively problem solve
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 25 pounds
  • Ability to bend, stoop, and sit for extended periods
  • Ability to work outdoors in extreme temperatures for extended periods
  • Ability to walk on rocky, uneven terrain

SCHEDULE AND LODGING

  • Will live on camp during camp season.
  • Will receive one full consecutive 24-hour period off work in a week and 2-3 hour breaks daily.
