Retail Sales and Operations Specialist - Full-Time

POSITION SUMMARY

At our Girl Scout retail store, we interact with girls and their families at pivotal moments in their Girl Scout experience and with our wonderful volunteers, who give their time and talents to their troops. You will experience the joy of helping a brand-new Daisy pick out her first uniform and the satisfaction that comes from helping a new troop leader learn the ways of Girl Scouting and how to tap into the myriad of resources available to them. You will get to form a relationship with our customers, many of whom are repeat visitors. We are a small department, so you will have the opportunity to do a bit of everything, even assist with the occasional pop-up shop where the storefront could be at one of our camp properties.

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Responsible for assisting customers and managing the retail store operation
  • Assists with the efficient and effective operations of the council retail shop to meet annual sales objectives.
  • Provides warm, friendly, helpful, and high-quality customer service to all internal and external customers while portraying a positive image of Girl Scouting.
  • Provides timely and accurate customer order
  • Manages the retail email inbox assuring that customer inquiries and orders are handled on time.
  • Manages the process and fulfillment of the GSM (Girl Scout Merchandising) Online Purchase Order procedures.
  • Knowledgeable in merchandise assortment and member resources to assist with customer service.
  • Assists in maintaining and updating processes and procedures related to the Brick & Mortar (B&M) retail operations.
  • Ensures the proper and accurate receipt of money, checks, and other types of payments processed through the POS (Point of Sale System). Includes merchandise sales and some payment processing for other departments.
  • Assists in the management of inventory and maintains accurate inventory controls to meet annual inventory goals and the needs of our customers.
  • Aids with stock optimization of new, current, and stale

  • Aids with marketing efforts in partnership with the Retail Director and Communications Team with a focus on Brick & Mortar Including connecting with service units, troops, and families when needed.
  • Responsible for scheduling B&M back-up and assisting in training new/back-up employees on brick-and-mortar retail operations.
  • Attends and actively participates in Retail Team Meetings, one-on-one meetings, All Staff Meetings/Retreats, etc.

KNOWLEDGE AND CREDENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • High school diploma - college a plus
  • Experience in retail, related merchandising, business administration, or a related field
  • Valid driver's license and safe driving record
  • Microsoft Office Suite knowledge (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher)

Preferred

  • Knowledge of Girl Scout Leadership Experience

ABILITY AND SKILLS QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish effective working relationships with other staff members, visitors, volunteers, and the public via telephone, email, and in-person
  • Planning and organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced work environment with the ability to multi-task while maintaining composure
  • Work requires normal physical effort for primarily an office environment; some physical effort in the handling of materials or boxes and tools or equipment of up to 50 pounds in non-strenuous Some periods of continual standing or walking may be required.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully manage multiple priorities, work independently, and meet deadlines
  • Strong human relations skills and can work well with people of diverse backgrounds

HOURS AND TRAVEL

  • Approximately 40 hours a week
  • Flexible office hours when the shop is not open to the Limited work from home flexibility.
  • Timely and willing to work nights and
    • Retail store hours: Tuesday and Thursday

9:00 am - 6:00 pm - closed for lunch from 1-2 2nd Saturday of every month

10:00 am - 2:00 pm

  • Possible travel at approximately 5%.
