Girl Scouts Central & Southern New Jersey is Hiring a Health Director Near Tabernacle, NJ

The Health Director is responsible for overseeing the health, safety, and business related work of summer camp. The Health Director will be an active team member of the administrative, campers and staff.
Essential Job Functions:
1. Provide health care to meet individual needs of camp staff and campers (child and adult).
  • Collaborate with staff to meet medical needs.
  • Follow health care policies/procedures as described in the Healthcare Manual and treatment procedures, including maintaining medical privacy.
2. Organize, maintain, and utilize adequate resources for serving the health and medical needs of the campers and staff.
  • Set up the camp Health Center.
  • Inventory and order all necessary medical supplies and equipment.
  • Submit complete virtual inventories of all health and safety related equipment and supplies at the close of camp along with a report of recommendations prior to the end of camp
3. Maintain accurate and detailed electronic medical records according to GSCSNJ, state and American Camp Association Standards.
  • Ensure staff and camper health examinations are current and on file in viral forms and physical forms (when applicable).
  • Prepare and utilize daily medical log for treatment and medications.
  • Prepare, record, and submit all insurance and accident report forms.
4. Oversee First Aid procedures and supplies.
  • Prepare and distribute first aid kits throughout camp including camp vehicles, kitchen, offices, waterfront, activity areas, out-of-camp trips.
  • Be responsible for contacting parents concerning the status of their child’s health by telephone in the following situations: any injury requiring an x-ray, illness requiring an infirmary stay and emergency treatment/accident, etc.
  • Serve as liaison between emergency personnel and camp administrators
  • Ensure supplies are well stocked and distributed as needed.
5. Ensure a staff orientation session is delivered on medical services.
  • Ensure camp staff and campers know their role related to health care and first aid.
  • Provide or ensure orientation is provided that includes standing orders, clinic hours, specific camper health and social needs, health center procedures, emergency procedures, growth and development of age groups, staff health assessment of campers, policies on contacting parents, transportation to outside health facilities, accident prevention and risk management, nutrition, and first aid in the camp setting.
6. Screen all campers and staff who are arriving and departing camp.
  • Verify health history and examination.
  • Verify emergency authorization.
  • Identify any observable evidence of illness or communicable diseases.
  • Keep all medications used by campers and staff.
7. Supervise sanitary & health safety conditions throughout camp.
  • Observe daily cleanliness hygienic areas such as bathrooms & showers, sleeping accommodations, and other applicable areas throughout camp.
  • Report any health problems or symptoms of illness to the Camp Director.
  • Maintain bathroom supplies, including sanitary products, as needed.
8. Manage all customer service and communication functions with customers and vendors.
  • Answer phones and e-mail communications related to camper registrations, parental and general camp operational questions.
  • Refer concerns to Camp Director.
9. Manage record keeping of camper and staff information.
  • Maintain accurate attendance rosters for program, bus, and administrative use; provide full rosters to Health Supervisor and Waterfront Manager; provide abridged roster for Kitchen Manager prior to the start of each week
  • Assist Camp Director in the collecting and filing of human resource forms from camp staff.
  • Record, file, summarize, and prepare reports related to camper registrar
Other Job Duties:
  • Attends all trainings and staff meetings before and during camp season.
  • Conduct Emergency Drills with the Program Manager and Administrative Staff on a weekly basis.
  • Adheres to all GSCSNJ council policies and procedures.
  • Participate enthusiastically in all camp activities, planning, and leading those as assigned.
  • Run the Trading Post as needed throughout the summer.
  • Perform any tasks beyond those assigned as help is needed.
  • Develop a resource file and obtain information and/or literature concerning health in the camp community.
  • Be knowledgeable of outside health resources.
  • Perform health care shopping as needed.
Qualifications:
  • Registered nurse (RN) with a license, EMT as required by that state law, or Wilderness First Responder 80hrs (or equitant).
  • CPR certified.
  • Current First Aid certification and experience in first aid and emergency management.
  • Valid drivers’ license, proof of insurance and access to reliable transportation. Experience in both children and adult illness/injury care.
  • Desire to work with children and adults.
  • Community health knowledge.
Aspects of the Job:
  • Assist campers and staff.
  • Read and follow directions on medication labels, health forms, physician orders, and parent letters.
  • Use electronic based telephone service on a smart device.
  • Maintain and electronic and written record system.
  • Daily use of CampDocs.
  • Respond quickly to emergencies in remote or uneven terrain locations on camp property.
  • Regularly observe and assess sanitation and safety conditions of the camp.
  • Communicate with parents, staff, and administration about camper health concerns.
  • Drive to off-camp health provider, physician, or emergency treatment locations.
  • Work as a team member of admin staff.
  • Identify needs and complete tasks independently.
