Gillette Children's is Hiring a Manager- Facilities Engineering & Environmental Services Near Saint Paul, MN

This position provides leadership and oversight of the day-to-day operations for all Gillette Children’s properties. Major responsibilities include facility management, engineering, environmental services (EVS), grounds and parking.

This position exists to:

  • Ensure Gillette has a clean, welcoming, and safe environment that complies with all regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure the efficient coordination of facilities services, maintenance, environmental services. Meet clinical, operational and financial objectives.
  • Provide oversight and drive process improvement for facilities engineering. Including the preventative maintenance and equipment and infrastructure repair to ensure alignment with industry standards and best practices.
  • Align EOC responsibilities with the strategic plan goals to support an excellent patient experience. 
  • Ensure proper maintenance on HVAC equipment, complete and maintain records to ensure compliance with maintenance schedules and life safety codes, ensure the cleanliness of both facility and grounds, provide leadership to engineering and EVS staff.

Compensation & Benefits 

The annual salary range for this opportunity is $84,156/annually to $126,235/annually, with a median salary of $105,185/annually. Pay is dependent on several factors including relevant work experience and internal equity. Salary is just one component of the compensation package for employees. Primary Job Responsibilities

  • Manages Environmental Services and Engineering functions.
    • Lead compliance of Environment of Care, Life safety, and Environmental Safety
    •  Provides oversight and leadership for policy and procedure development, quality standards, and process improvement. 
    • Sets clear expectations for continuous quality and service improvements. Uses internal and external data to establish best practices within this scope of responsibility.
    • Collaborates with Infection Prevention and ICRA to reduce infections for staff, patients and visitors.
    • Ensures staff’s education, knowledge, skill development and involvement in best practices and creates an understanding of the importance of a safe and healing environment.
    • Stays informed of current and emerging issues and trends for areas of accountability.
    • Tours and inspects facility daily for defects and damage. Coordinates the execution of repairs.
    • Manages annual department operations budgets, building operations budgets and supports the creation of the 5-year capital plan.
    • Participates in the creation and execution of the master facility plan.
  • Manages facility engineering team, tasks and projects.
    • Maintains current knowledge and application of regulatory compliance, industry standards and products.
    • Partners with Facility Planning to create and update facility standards.
    • Manages maintenance of all systems, equipment and spaces ensuring that all operate safely and to the benefit of the Gillette community.
    • Manages the preventive maintenance program for all non-medical equipment and participates in the clinical engineering workgroup.
    • Develops and suggests new maintenance and operation practices to improve efficiency and affect cost savings. Such practices may include energy saving studies, annual maintenance inspections and standard preventative maintenance software and conducting surveys to determine the best products to use at new facilities.
  • Manages environmental services (EVS) staff, practices, and polices to see that spaces are clean, compliant and managed at or above industry standards to limit infection and enhance the patient experience.
  • Implements facility services for the organization.
    • Oversees solicitation and hiring of consultants, vendors and contractors to see that service and performance is aligned with expectations.
    • Manages the landscaping, snow removal, parking garages, irrigation system, and any other general space.
    • Ensures compliance with all Joint Commission, CARF, OSHA regulations and other local, state, and federal governmental regulations.
    • Supports parking facilities and day-to-day parking management.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in facilities, engineering, or related degree.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in facility engineering or facility operations.
  • Minimum 5 years of healthcare (inpatient and/or clinic) experience
  • Minimum 3 years of management experience

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong leadership and management abilities
  • Must possess working knowledge of day-to-day facilities operations including but not limited to preventive/programmed maintenance, basic utility systems, mechanical design, building controls, building envelopes including roofing.
  • Knowledge of Life Safety Code 101, The Facility Guidelines Institute- Guidelines for Design and Construction of Hospitals and Outpatient Facilities, The Joint Commission and local and state regulatory requirements
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Strong skills in time management, productivity, and multi-tasking abilities.Knowledge of safety, infection control guidelines, and regulatory agency requirements
  • Strong communication skills, technical skills and the ability to work effectively with various users, consultants as well as internal and external customers.

  • Master’s degree in business or related degree
