The Geographic Information System Technician performs a wide range of duties related to the operation of a Geographic Information System (GIS) including but not limited to GPS data collection, data input, data verification, data analysis, cartography, public outreach, feature class updates, model building, and creates, manages, and updates geodatabases. This position keeps accurate records, completes GIS requests, and assigns physical addresses. The GIS functions may include conducting and facilitate training on the GIS system and software. This position serves as a resource person and provide technical support on GIS software and system.
· Maintain GPS data collection, data processing, data conversion, and data verification completed by GPS data collection, AutoCAD and ArcGIS software. The accuracies of the data collected is very important to the integrity of the GIS system.
· Provide data updates, maintenance, verification, and accuracy checks to ensure the data in the GIS is continually checked for errors; Conduct research to resolve any conflicting information which is then hyperlinked back to the data. Reviews standards established by the GIS Manager to ensure the data supplied to end users will enable them to make informed decisions on any project.
· Create models and scripts for use with ArcGIS Map, ArcGIS Pro, AutoCAD, and FME software.
· Solve problems with software related issues by having a good understanding of GIS software, ArcGIS Map, ArcGIS Catalog, ArcGIS Pro, AutoCAD Map, FME, MS Access, and MS Excel. Software related issues may be composed of Data Converting Attribute Table Schemas, Creating Raster Mosaics, Re-Projecting Coordinate Systems, recovering Feature Classes, Recovering File Geodatabase, Recovering, Enterprise Geodatabases Recovering and Re-Projecting raw GPS data.
· Keep accurate records of each request submitted to GIS including documenting all contact with the submitter, any issues, dates, when the request was received, and all documents linked to the request in an access database.
· Serves as a resource person and provides technical support to GRIC departments and entities on GIS related tasks and issues.
· Perform other related duties as assigned.
· Knowledgeable of GIS software including ESRI Products, AutoDesk Products, FME, MS Access, GPS related software, Adobe Illustrator, Google Earth and Maps.
· Knowledge of Model building and/or Python script writing.
· Knowledge of Geodatabase creation, maintenance and troubleshooting.
· Ability to physically complete field work in Arizona summer temperatures.
· Ability to work in a team environment.
· Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees, Community Officials and the general public.
· Ability to perform all physical requirements of the position; agree to maintain a Drug-free workplace.
Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Geographic Information Systems, Planning, Engineering or closely related field and two (2) years’ experience in Geographic Information Systems, Surveying, Cartography, Python Programing, or Model Building.
Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
· Certified Geographic Information Systems (GIS) professional preferred.
· Background check may be required.
· Required to obtain a Tribal Operator’s permit. Valid state driver’s license with proof of driving record for the past 39 months will be required to qualify for a tribal driving permit. Proof of driving record must be submitted with application and must not be more than 60 days old from the date of submission of the application
