Gettysburg College is Hiring a Campus Safety Officer Near Gettysburg, PA

Gettysburg College is seeking a full time Campus Safety Officer (CSO) (40 hours per week) to work for Campus Safety. These positions will assist other departmental members in fulfilling the expectations of the organization’s mission.
Hours and days, while scheduled, can vary in accordance with the needs of the Department and the College, to include weekends, holidays, events, required training, and mandatory overtime.
Campus Safety is an unarmed and nonsworn security agency. CSOs are the primary patrol and public contact personnel for Campus Safety, who perform a variety of security / campus safety duties including event security, campus patrol, dispatching services, enforcing law and policy for campus administrative judicial purposes, and protecting the lives and property within the campus community.
Building relationships with the college community is an essential part of CSO duties. CSOs are expected to provide superior service and set a positive example for the college community and fellow campus safety members, and are committed to the concepts of Procedural Justice, focusing on the ideals of fairness, transparency and trust in both process and outcomes. Successful candidates will demonstrate principles of customer service, conflict de-escalation, diversity, teamwork, cooperation, kindness, patience, excellent personal character, and community partnership concepts. Treating others with dignity and respect is at the core of Campus Safety’s organizational values.
Existing training and certifications are welcome, and in-house training will be provided.
Qualifications
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong personal integrity and reliability.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • A demonstrated ability to interact with others in a manner consistent with the high ideals of integrity, leadership, and respect.
  • Willingness and ability to engage with the public and Gettysburg College’s diverse student population with a focus on community and customer service.
  • Willingness and ability to work in all weather conditions and during emergency conditions which may be physically demanding, to include walking patrols or responses on campus.
  • Successful completion of PA Lethal Weapons Training Act (Act 235) certification is required within six months of hire.
  • Valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain one at time of hire.
  • Ability to pass a comprehensive background check.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • At least one year’s previous experience in safety/security, law enforcement, dispatching, uniformed service, or related field, with preference for a higher education campus environment.
  • Demonstrated successful experience working in a fast paced, community-oriented campus safety agency in a diverse community.
  • Previous campus safety experience working on a residential college campus.
  • Strong skills with technology to include radio systems, personal computers and mobile devices, CCTV systems, and alarm systems.
  • Certification in baton, pepper spray, CPR/AED/First Aid, handcuffing, or other related training.
