Gessner Engineering is Hiring a Senior Survey Technician Near Bryan, TX

As a Senior Survey Technician with Gessner Engineering, you will process incoming information, review deliverable drafts, and produce final project deliverables. In addition, you will support field and office survey staff by advising and training on the range of survey competencies. You will report to the Project Manager and perform technical tasks utilizing the latest technology in the A/E/C industry. You will help increase project efficiency and client satisfaction by:

  • Coordinate with Project Manager and Survey Field Operations Manager to ensure project requirements are met in the office & the field
  • Process field survey data and perform initial CAD work on survey deliverables
  • Quality control assistance of client specific deliverables
  • Supplement field crew production & provide quality assurance
  • Train field / office staff in best practices & standards
  • Provide field support for the survey staff as needed
  • Perform initial QC of field deliverables according to standards & best practices
  • Perform QC checks on-site to verify the quality of work
  • Daily processing of survey data, including evaluating accuracy and sufficiency, & ensuring compliance to applicable regulations, professional, & industry standards related to boundary calculations, legal descriptions, etc.
  • Perform deed research, deed plotting & map checks
  • Request title reports such as Ownership & Encumbrance (O&E) and Title Commitment 
  • Prepare survey plats and drawings, legal descriptions & alignment drawings
  • Provide technical office support (brief & de-brief) for field crews
  • Perform QC checks of plats and drawings prepared by others
  • Ensure schedules & productivity objectives for preparation of survey plats & drawings are met
  • Prepare final surveys and other associated deliverables from survey field data such as Topographic Surveys, Route Surveys, Right-of Way Maps, ALTA/NSPS Surveys, Boundary Surveys.
  • Identifies potential conflicts, issues or other problems and develops solution recommendations to present to Senior Project Manager/Coordinator.
  • Strives to continue learning new technologies and methods.
  • Assists with training new hires in CAD Standards, surveying techniques, and legal standards.
  • Coordinate with construction supervisors and interpret potential errors or discrepancies in layout.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience working on Land Survey Projects.
  • Mastery of current versions of specialized land surveying software to include Civil3D 2020 and Carlson 2021.
  • Experience with TxDOT survey projects is desired.
  • Experience in preparing surveys associated with land development projects and public sector projects.
  • Organization Skills
  • Detail Oriented
  • Experience working with scan data not required, but is a plus as this position will be required to extract features from mobile and aerial LiDAR generated point clouds.
  • Field experience not required, but is a plus as this position will be required to fill in as a crew member on occasion.
  • Must be willing to travel.
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of surveying principles and procedures for land surveying and engineering surveying.
  • Able to perform basic boundary analysis and make recommendations to the Registered Professional Land Surveyor on boundary determination.
  • In-depth knowledge of platting procedures and formats.
  • Able to read and understand various technical documents such as deeds, plats, easements, title reports and construction plans.
  • Able to prepare legal descriptions and survey plats with minimal supervision.
  • Able to prepare survey instructions, logistic plans, and dispatch packets for field crew deployment.
