Overview:
We are currently seeking an experienced Equipment Operator to join our team. The ideal candidate will have proficiency in operating a variety of heavy machinery and equipment.
Job Summary:
Operates heavy mobile equipment specific to an operating area (Shredder or Retail II) to include a mobile crane with a hydraulic grapple or mobile shear to load, unload, process and handle all scrap material received. Unload shreddable material from incoming trucks and load scrap from existing piles onto the Shredder infeed conveyor. Utilize the mobile shear to process and cut oversized scrap. Directly responsible for maximizing productivity of Shredder and Retail II Operations.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsible for safely operating mobile equipment to include hydraulic grapple crane, mobile shear, magnet crane, and all other mobile equipment.
Duties involve prompt attention and service to avoid delays. Requires the use of judgment to plan, perform, and make decisions as to the sequence of material movement and handling procedures required to service the Shredder in a timely and efficient manner.
Exercises extreme care in picking up and transporting loads, clearing obstacles and properly positioning lifts to prevent swinging, production delays, and/or damage or injury to equipment or employees. Maintains heightened awareness of surroundings at all times to include pedestrians, mobile equipment, rail traffic, etc.
Inspect scrap for any non-conforming material for quality, grade, and safety purposes. This inspection process is critical to the operation and requires constant attention in order to avoid downtime and equipment damage.
Operate the shear to cut oversized material to an acceptable size to be sent directly to the Shedder and/or blend yard.
Inspect shear head and associated equipment to ensure shear is in proper working order.
Sort and separate scrap according to grade in order to properly maintain scrap piles for inventory control.
Watch operation of surrounding conveyors and equipment, and communicate any problems to responsible personnel.
Perform routine equipment care such as lubrication, greasing, fueling and cleaning of mobile equipment.
Additional Responsibilities:
Monitor all loads and material for potential fire hazards.
Follows all PPE requirements and safety rules/guidelines for all tasks being performed.
Maintains communication with coworkers through two-way radio and hand signals.
Work independently and as part of a self-directed team with limited supervision.
Maintains work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition.
Engagement in GBS tools and methodology.
Complete training requirements to step up to the next job grade.
Assists maintenance and operations personnel as needed.
All other duties as assigned.
