GeoStructures, Inc./ASAP Installations is Hiring a Construction Safety Specialist Near Fayetteville, NC

Construction Safety Specialist Under general supervision, assists in monitoring and coordination of the company’s health and safety programs, including safety inspections, accident investigations, and safety training. Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Participates in the development and implementation of company safety programs such as lockout/tagout, fall protection, fire protection, and other OSHA safety compliance programs.
  2. Advises the company on safety protocols and procedures to ensure the safety of crew members, staff, public, other trades as well as regulatory compliance as mandated by local, state, and federal agencies, including the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and other government regulatory offices.
  3. Performs hazard analyses and recommends mitigation procedures to Safety Manager.
  4. Participates in the development and implementation of department safety work order tracking and reporting.
  5. Conducts routine and follow-up environmental health, safety, and hazard inspections of jobsites.
  6. Responds to emergency situations involving safety incidents, or unknown hazards; prepares reports of findings and submits recommendations.
  7. Analyzes accident and incident reports for trends; makes recommendations for correcting unsafe conditions and actions.
  8. Assist with the special guidelines required of general contractors to implement effective safety programs.
  9. Initiate and audit high-risk work permits (e.g., crane operations, work at heights, hot work, excavations).
  10. Provide Jobsite safety orientation and oversee subcontractor safety performance.
  11. Prepare and present training in safety topics to include but not limited to : fall protection, hot work, lockout / tag out, powered industrial trucks, electrical safety, cranes/rigging, excavation/trenches, hazard communication, ladder safety, etc.
  12. Conduct routine (daily and weekly) job site safety inspections.
  13. Review safety data sheets (SDSs) for chemicals brought onsite.
  14. Mentor/coach employees and managers in safe work practice.
  15. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required•Skill in performing safety inspections ensuring compliance with OSHA and NFPA safety standards.•Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical personnel and become a trainer of various safety topics.•Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.•Ability to develop, implement, and enforce safety programs and protocols.•Skill in performing safety inspections and ensuring compliance with OSHA safety standards.•Knowledge of federal, state, and local safety regulations, protocols, and/or procedures.•Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.•Skill in developing safety procedures and protocols.•Ability to investigate and analyze information and draw conclusions.•Ability to work effectively with diverse populations.Conditions of Employment•A valid driver's license will be required as a motor vehicle must be operated on the job.•Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.•Specific personnel training is required for employees working with hazardous materials and hazardous waste.Working Conditions and Physical Effort•A variety of physical activity is required in this position. This position requires some heavy physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects up to 50 pounds. Physical work is not a primary part of job.•Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic company safety precautions.•Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
  • East Coast Travel 80% is required
Safety Specialist Requirements and Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety or a related field
  • BCSP certification preferred
  • Compliance experience in the Construction Industry
  • Familiarity with federal, state, and local regulations
  • Bilingual communication skills a plus (English/Spanish)
  • CPR/First Aid certification a plus
