Ride Operator

Georgia Mountain Coaster is the first and only mountain coaster in the state of Georgia. A mountain coaster is a gravity driven ride with a fixed track and a fleet of thirty carts. A team of ride operators is required to run our mountain coaster. Our goal here at Georgia Mountain Coaster is simple: we want to give lots and lots of riders a really great experience while keeping them all perfectly safe. To do so, we need a really great crew.

This role is an outdoor recreation/amusement role. This job is a great fit for someone who: is attentive, is a people person, likes working as part of a team, loves the outdoors, enjoys doing some manual labor, and is interested in working with/learning from maintenance crews who know the technical details of how to operate, inspect, and maintain a mountain coaster.

Ride operators must learn to operate, inspect, and monitor different aspects of the ride before, after, and during operations. They make sure the ride is operated safely and efficiently. Operators run key mechanisms in accordance with the manufacturer's operating procedures, assist customers into and out of the carts, buckle and check seatbelts, and make sure our customers comply with all the safety requirements. And, just as importantly, they also make sure customers are treated well and have a great experience. Operators must work as a team under the guidance and supervision of the lead operator who oversees ride operations each day.

In addition to their duties during daily operations, ride operators must perform manual labor to help our grounds/upkeep crew maintain our premises and facilities and use basic hand tools to assist our ride maintenance team with inspections and maintenance. Operators must be physically involved in some routine inspections and maintenance. Some types of inspections/maintenance requires all hands on deck. This aspect of the job involves hiking up and down a mountain in forest terrain in a variety of weather conditions, the use of hand tools, lifting up to 75lbs, as well as walking and working on high walkways.

Job Responsibilities

  • Work all day in an outdoor environments performing a variety of tasks related to ride operation
  • Greet customers, attend to and respond to customer inquiries
  • Memorize standard operating procedures and ride requirements and instructional speeches
  • Educate customers on the proper operation of the carts and the rules they must follow while on the ride
  • Direct and help customers as they load into carts
  • Buckle seat belts using a procedure set out by the manufacturer and follow a verification procedure to check that seatbelts are secure and functional once buckled
  • Operate ride machinery such as belts, conveyors, chainstops, haul rope, and cart lift arm
  • Enforce the safety standards set in place by the manufacturer and the mountain coaster management, comply with any additional safety oriented practices that may be developed by management
  • Monitor the ride throughout the day to guard against potential hazards
  • Ensure that customers meet ride requirements such as height, age, weight, etc. while still providing excellent customer service
  • Respond to emergencies effectively and appropriately
  • Operators must communicate with the general manager, lead operator, and maintenance technicians to notify them of issues that may arise with the ride. All operators will be put through training to give them a solid foundation of ride knowledge, relevant inspection and maintenance procedures, and potential hazards.
  • Perform manual labor as needed to maintain facilities such as picking up trash, blowing/bagging leaves, misc. landscaping/yard work, pressure washing, staining, painting, etc.
  • Hiking and walking the track to recover lost items, pick up and assist with inspection
  • Use basic hand-tools for inspections and maintenance
  • Carry parts and materials for maintenance crews
  • Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements

Operators must be able to:

  • Work outdoors for entire shift
  • Understand and comply with all procedures
  • Verbally communicate with patrons and team members
  • Pay attention for long periods
  • Stand and walk for long periods
  • Use wrenches and other basic hand tools to help ride maintenance crews inspect the track and perform repairs
  • Lift and carry loads up to 75 lbs
  • Hike up mountainous terrain and walk along catwalks up to 40 feet high

Job Qualifications

  • Must be willing and able to work long shifts—ranging from 10 to 12 hours
  • Must have consistent weekend availability
  • Some holiday availability required
  • Must be 18 years old
  • Must possess a valid driver's license
  • Must pass background check
  • All operators may be drug tested at any time
