Description

Georgia Military College’s Main Campus is now accepting applications for a Director of Georgia Public Safety Leadership Institute (GPSLI).

Position Purpose:

Oversee the 2-year Georgia Public Safety Leadership Program within the Georgia Military College Junior College Corps of Cadets by recruiting cadets, screening them for service in Georgia Public Safety, developing and leading training with a heavy focus on fitness, firearms and driving in accordance with Georgia Public Safety Training Course Standards, assist in fundraising and grant writing for the program. Foster external relationships for GMC with local and state law enforcement, state legislature, and other government entities. This position is responsible for overseeing all campus police operations, through the Chief of Campus Police. In coordination with the Chief of Campus Police, responsible for assigning work schedules, establishing Departmental goals, long range plans, policies and procedures, and training requirements of the Department. In coordination with the Chief of Campus Police, responsible for the development, implementation and delivery of training for the Campus Police Department. Be prepared to work weekends as required (with prior coordination) and other tasks as assigned by the Commandant of Cadets.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Recruits and screens cadets for entrance into the program.
  • Lead physical fitness training for participating cadets.
  • Instructs in all P.O.S.T. designated high liability areas (defensive tactics, emergency vehicle operation, firearms).
  • Coordinate all in-house and off-site training for GPSLI cadets.
  • Assist in fundraising and grant writing.
  • Oversight of Campus Police Department to include daily operations, emergency management, customer relations, primarily through the Chief of Campus Police.
  • Oversight of departmental hiring and training requirements and mandated firearms recertification of all staff, and plan and direct training programs in compliance with the Georgia P.O.S.T. Training Council. Maintain training and performance records on all Department Personnel. Attends mandatory P.O.S.T. and department training to maintain required P.O.S.T Standards.
  • Departmental strategic planning and performance evaluations for GPSLI and Campus Police.
  • Facilitate building and maintaining relationships between GMC and the broader law enforcement community in Georgia, including liaison between GMC and local/state government entities.
  • Prepare and brief GMC senior leaders, distinguished visitors, large groups, and critical stakeholders on GMC, the Corps of Cadets, and the GPSLI program.

*Criminal background check and drug screen must be cleared before any candidate may begin working.

Qualifications


Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 5-years of P.O.S.T certified instructor experience; 3 years of experience in law enforcement supervision.
  • Georgia P.O.S.T. certified Mandated Peace Officer.
  • Meet Georgia P.O.S.T. Standards for physical and mental condition.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age or older.
  • Must have a Valid Driver's License with clean drivers’ history.
  • Must have clean Criminal History. An extensive background check will be conducted.
  • Must have EXCELLENT interpersonal skills and excellent skills dealing with the general public and students.
  • Must have knowledge or experience with computers and/or job-related software programs.
  • Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations commonly associated with completion of high school level or higher.
  • Knowledge of relevant federal and state laws, campus regulations, and college policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of radio communication and codes.
  • Knowledge of the physical layout of the campus and surrounding area.

Preferred

  • Master’s Degree.
  • 8-years of P.O.S.T. certified instructor experience; 8 years of experience in law enforcement supervision.
  • Georgia P.O.S.T. Certifications in Supervision, Firearms Instructor, Defensive Tactics Instructor, EVOC Instructor.
