Description

Georgia Military College is now accepting applications for the Director of Communications. The Director of Communications is one of three teammates that work together on day-to-day communications operations. This individual leads the day-to-day operations but will also be a working manager, meaning the responsibilities of taking photos, video, etc. are distributed evenly amongst the Director, Deputy Director, and Communications Specialist. This person will play a pivotal role in planning, creating, and executing comprehensive communication strategies to promote the Prep School, Main Campus, Satellite Locations, President of the Institution, Corps of Cadets, and Advancement. They will oversee the planning and creation of visual, print, digital, and social media content, and ensure key messages align with GMC's mission, vision, and strategic plan. In addition to overseeing daily operations, the Director is responsible for the creation and execution of all institutional publications materials and content creation. This individual researches, interviews, collects, and creates written and video content for use in the institution’s publications and digital platforms. This is a collaborative position as the individual will work with various departments to collect information and create assets the institution will use to brand, market, and promote itself, while also creating engaging content for external audiences to include alumni and donors.

  • Manage and oversee day-to-day communications operations and long-term efforts
  • Work closely with the AVP of Communications and Governmental Affairs to inform about ongoings of the department and collaborate to share ideas for implementation
  • Collaborate with and lead the Deputy Director of Communications and Communications Specialist on all departmental items and work together to evenly distribute out of office responsibilities between the three teammates
  • Plan, develop, and execute a comprehensive content strategy that targets all audiences through various platforms to include print publications, digital, and social media
  • Oversee the creation of written and video content that highlights the achievements, experiences, and milestones of alumni and current students
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external contributors to gather compelling stories and ensure content aligns with institutional objectives
  • Manage the production of physical publications, including magazines, newsletters, and other print materials
  • Develop and maintain a content calendar to ensure timely and consistent delivery of publications and stories, as well as strategic photo and video needs for the institution
  • Stay updated on industry trends and best practices in content creation to enhance the organization's storytelling capabilities
  • Work closely with Institutional Development, Prep School, and Junior College teams to identify potential story subjects and cultivate relationships with storytellers
  • Create, edit, and review content for accuracy, clarity, and adherence to brand guidelines before publication
  • Work with the AVP of Communications to manage budget, timelines, and resources effectively to ensure successful content creation and publication processes

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 3 years of relevant experience
  • Ability to take high-quality photos and video, photo, and video editing skills
  • Ability to collaborate, lead, and take direction.

  • 5 years of relevant experience
  • Experience within an educational environment
  • Drone certification
