Description

Georgia Legal Services Program, Inc. seeks an attorney for the role of Attorney Pro Bono Coordinator in its Columbus Regional Office. The Attorney Pro Bono Coordinator engages in activities to recruit, train and place cases with volunteer lawyers in the region. The position is a team position working with other GLSP staff across the state who work to engage volunteer lawyers, law students and others in the provision of free civil legal services. The Attorney Pro Bono Coordinator is co-supervised by the regional Managing Attorney and GLSP’s Pro Bono Director.

The successful candidate will be responsible for utilizing statewide policies and best practices to maintain and develop local pro bono recruitment, retention, and volunteer recognition strategies; place pro bono cases within the Columbus region; and strengthen partnerships with local bar associations, law schools, and other legal professional networks. On a statewide level, the Pro Bono Staff Attorney will collaborate with other members of the Pro Bono Program to ensure clients receive consistent services throughout the 154-county GLSP territory.

PRIMARY DUTIES

· Innovate and lead local regional efforts in developing and maintaining pro bono programming;

· Place and oversee the progress of GLSP pro bono cases and matters with volunteer lawyers and law students;

· Employ strategic pro bono communication and assist in GLSP internal and external communication;

· Assist in recruiting volunteers, corporate counsel, law firms and law schools to GLSP pro bono initiatives;

· Develop and enact a statewide signature project pro bono project by the end of first year in this role; and

· Assist the Statewide Pro Bono Team in creating and updating materials for distribution to law firms and corporate counsel.

Requirements

· Graduate of an accredited law school and admission to the Georgia Bar;

· Experience working with clients with low incomes or with potentially marginalized populations such as immigrants, senior citizens and persons with disabilities;

· Demonstrated commitment to social justice;

· Willingness and ability to work as part of a team in a professional and collaborative manner;

· Reliable transportation and a valid Georgia driver's license; and

· Ability to speak Spanish is a plus.

The starting salary range for this position is between $50,750 and $57,350, depending on experience.
