Job Summary

Hired on “as needed” basis (This is an applicant Pool). This Casual (Occasional) Labor position is responsible for overseeing student testing sessions in the testing labs for standardized and institutional tests. Reporting to the Assessment Center Coordinator, responsibilities include preparing the testing lab for test sessions (set up computers, testing materials, etc.), monitoring activities during test sessions, shutting down computers in the room after testing is complete, providing general information to students regarding processes and procedures used during testing. Must maintain test security and student confidentiality. Must be willing to work a varied schedule which may include day, evening and possibly Saturday hours. Some travel may be required. As Casual Labor, this is a non-benefitted, temporary (11-month) position. Casual labor is limited to no more than 19 hours per week. There may be extended periods of time within the 11-month period when proctor does not work. Proctor will be scheduled as needed by the Coordinator. Incumbents in the position may or may not be offered the opportunity to work an addition 11-month cycle.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare testing lab(s) for test administrations
  • Proctor student tests throughout the test session. May occasionally proctor Assessment Center tests for students with disabilities providing specific accommodations granted by disabilities office.
  • Maintain security of test passwords, paper tests, and other testing materials
  • Follow detailed rules, policies and procedures regarding testing and FERPA laws regarding student confidentiality
  • Maintain accurate check in rosters and other related information
  • Monitor testing computers during tests to ensure students are not venturing into non-approved computer sites
  • Interact with students by answering general questions and by giving general information
  • Report all testing irregularities, student disruptions or student concerns to the Assessment Center Coordinator
  • Instruct students in how to take computer-based tests
  • Perform related duties

Required Qualifications

  • Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a high school diploma or GED in a course of study related to the occupational field
  • An Associate’s Degree is preferred
  • An understanding of and experience using common computer programs
  • Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with having had a similar position for one to two years or the completion of an apprenticeship/internship
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated

$12.00 per hour

  • Knowledge of computerized testing practices
  • Knowledge of FERPA
  • Skill in using computers for testing and for maintaining accurate electronic time card
  • Skill in light troubleshooting of computer problems.
  • Skill in oral and written communication and public speaking
  • Skill in customer service and in serving a diverse population
  • Ability to quickly learn and apply changes in testing standards, tools, packages, monitoring devices
  • Ability to describe and report to Coordinator (or Test Administrator in the absence of the Coordinator) with accuracy, clarity and timeliness any testing irregularities (problems with technology, test packages, students and/or proctor behavior in the testing lab) occurring in a test session
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of the larger test proctoring team
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality regarding student information and/or testing records
  • Ability to remain alert in a sometimes quiet testing environment
  • Ability to intermittently walk, stand, sit, stoop, crouch, bend, climb steps
  • Ability to work hours assigned for day, evening, and/or Saturday testing which may include a split shift
