Georgetown's McCourt School of Public Policy Writing Center aims to help students succeed as writers in the McCourt curriculum and as policy professionals. This mission embodies two core ideas: first, that clear writing demands and enables clear thinking; and second, that for participants in the public decision process, effective writing is a foundation of professional growth and personal influence. Simply put, good writing is a source of power.
Job Overview
The Director of the McCourt School of Public Policy Writing Center oversees all aspects of the McCourt Writing Center throughout the entire academic year and summer semester; and serves as the main point of contact for academic writing support for students and faculty through creating and maintaining an online repository of public policy writing, developing, teaching and working with faculty on an introductory policy writing skills short course for all incoming students, and overseeing a Writing Fellows program to provide individual writing support for 500 graduate students.
For the upcoming addition of the McCourt undergraduate public policy major, the Director serves as the liaison to the Georgetown University Writing Center to help support undergraduate students.
Work Interactions
Reporting to the Associate Dean for Student Affairs, the Director of the Writing Center interacts McCourt undergraduate, graduate students, individual McCourt faculty, and the McCourt faculty Curriculum Committee; and serves as a liaison with the Georgetown University Writing Center.
Qualifications
Master's degree
Strong interpersonal/relationship building skills
Availability and willingness to work evenings and weekend as necessary
Preferred qualifications
PhD
Experience in public policy writing and/or teaching
