Requirements Director of Development, Florida and Southeast Region – Office of Advancement – Georgetown University The Director of Development, Florida and Southeast Region is responsible for engaging current and prospective donors in the case for support of Georgetown University and in the pursuit of Georgetown’s Called to Be campaign. Reporting to the Senior Director of Regional Development for the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast Regions, the Director is responsible for managing a prospect portfolio of approximately 100-150 major gift and planned giving prospects rated at $100,000 or higher. They travel at least five days per month and make a minimum of 100-125 visits annually with current and prospective donors who are undergraduate alumni, current and former parents, and friends with an annual goal of raising $2 million to $4 million or more. The Director’s core responsibility is to engage current and prospective donors - who primarily reside in the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic region - with a focus on Florida and potentially from select other regions. They identify and solicit new principal, major gift, and planned gift prospects; ensures strong pipeline development from discovery to solicitation to gift closing; and possibly collaborates with the appropriate constituent development unit or senior regional advancement officer. In addition to the responsibilities related to portfolio work and market management, the Director co-leads a regional philanthropic council, focused on engaging and advancing the mission of the institution and Georgetown’s capital campaign. Further, they directly supervise a development associate and are an internal partner in ongoing meaningful professional development strategies for the development associate and senior development associate cohort. These interactions are critical as the office seeks to engage and invest in the important work of talent retention and development of career growth. Work Interactions The Director of Development, Florida and Southeast Region works closely with university leadership, select faculty, and high-level volunteer leaders and board members, as well as with the Advancement Donor Relations, Campaign, and Stewardship teams, to design high-level donor experiences. The Director works independently in their outreach to potential donors, and maintains a sense of collegiality with fellow staff in the Office of Advancement. This position may be based in Washington, D.C. or Florida This position has been designated as Hybrid. Requirements and Qualifications Bachelor’s degree At least 5 years of progressively responsible experience in major gifts fundraising - ideally in higher education institutions, with demonstrable success securing six-figure major gifts A desire to contribute to and participate in the mission of Georgetown University and the Office of Advancement Excellent oral and written communication skills and highly developed interpersonal interaction skills including the ability to exchange and interpret information requiring understanding to influence others Strong negotiating and marketing skills Ability to give significant attention to detail Ability to work with a diverse range of constituents, including donors, board members and volunteers as well as alumni, parents, friends, faculty, administrators and internal colleagues Effective collaborative approach Strong computer skills, including all Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), Google Workspace, and Salesforce.com GU360 constituent relationship management system A demonstrated track record of success in meeting major gift and campaign goals A desire to manage and/or gain management experience Preferred Qualifications Experience fundraising for higher education institutions and with planned giving An innovative nature and an entrepreneurial approach Current Georgetown Employees: If you currently work at Georgetown University, please exit this website and login to GMS (gms.georgetown.edu) using your Net ID and password.
