The Racial Justice Institute (RJI) creates and inspires racial justice. Building from Georgetown's values and historical experience with slavery, RJI activates the resources of the university and collaborates with an expansive range of partners. Working across boundaries, RJI catalyzes innovative social change through scholarship, interventions, and transformative strategies.
Job Overview
The Director of Communications (CD) assumes overall responsibility for all RJI communications, ranging from content development to consistent messaging to strategic vision. They work closely with the RJI leadership team to develop both content and larger communications strategies; and collaborate with affiliated faculty and staff to produce content (across multiple media) highlighting the work of RJI.
The CD has primary responsibility for the development and maintenance of the website, as well as the visual identity and brand(ing) of the institute, in keeping with larger University guidelines. They work with RJI leadership to draft reports and presentations about the Institute's work and news stories and other content pieces featuring the Institute's activities. Additionally, the CD collaborates with counterparts in school and university communications departments as appropriate; works to promote RJI widely and effectively - within in the Georgetown community and more broadly; and recommends and implements approaches to social media and a regular newsletter for the Institute.
Work Interactions
Initially, the CD will have management responsibility of future communications specialists as the RJI expands. They also collaborate with counterparts in school and University communications as necessary and appropriate, and regularly engages faculty across the University to build and deepen relationships.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree
8 years of experience in communications
Strong written communication skills across a wide variety of contexts
Experience and facility across multiple social media platforms
Experience with web development/maintenance
Comfort working with diverse populations
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively; comfort managing a team to achieve strategic goals and vision
Work Mode: Hybrid (3 days on campus, 2 days telework). Please note that work mode designations are regularly reviewed in order to meet the evolving needs of the University.
