Role Overview

Genus PLC has an exciting opportunity. We are looking for an Embryologist to be responsible for the media production needs of our North America IVF laboratories and affiliates as well as serve as the team leader in South Dakota. The position is located in our Sioux Falls, SD lab. The embryologist will supervise and aid in the training and development of the IVF production team for the successful productions of bovine IVF embryos. has primary accountability for the production and quality control testing of IVF media, which includes coordinating with lab managers and organizing a production schedule to meet forecasts. As a key leader within the North America embryo business, this position is expected to collaborate with other US embryo team leaders to ensure the effective development and execution of cutting-edge embryo technologies that will ultimately advance livestock genetic improvement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Media Production

• Produce media for bovine in vitro embryo production for the ABS affiliated commercial IVF labs.
• Communicate with commercial IVF labs for media orders and concerns.
• Schedule and coordinate the quality control testing of produced media.
• Communicate with third parties or abattoir facilities for receiving oocytes used for quality control.
• Package and ship product to commercial labs or collaborators, including international sites.
• Inventory and purchase media production materials and reagents.
• Collect QC experimental data, summarize, and present data for the approval of media usage.
• Conduct and oversee the calibration and maintenance of key laboratory equipment.
• Communicate clearly and regularly with other team members, Scientists, and the Director.

Lab Team Leader

• Coordinate the daily routines of the lab staff and foster an environment of learning and accountability.
• Train new lab staff in accordance with technology SOPs and champion new techniques aimed at performance improvement.
• Supervise lab staff and proactively act upon employee relation opportunities including coaching and performance management.
• Develop strategies to increase productivity and efficiencies with the IVF laboratory.
• Ensure quality control measures for maximized IVF embryo production.
• Participate in the analysis of key performance indicators and over the success of the results relevant to the business and the clientele.
• Uphold the Genus core values, mission and vision.
• Performs other projects and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

Education and experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in animal science, biology, veterinary medicine, or related field required.
• Proficiency in the manufacturing and quality control testing of IVF media.
• Experience leading, training, and developing teams.
• Strong technical and scientific knowledge of bovine IVF and embryology.

Knowledge/Skills:

• Advanced English communication skills required.
• Background and in-depth understanding of embryo physiology and assisted reproductive technologies.
• Demonstrated leadership and people management skills.
• Demonstrated ability to deploy SOPs and production plans to achieve results.
• Excels at interpersonal relationships, with a positive attitude towards others.
