SUMMARY
The primary purpose of the Research Assistant I position is to provide technical assistance in carrying out projects related to Drosophila nociception and tissue repair.
KEY FUNCTIONS
·Generate Drosophila stocks useful for studying chemotherapy-induced nociceptive sensitization and other nociception projects in the lab
·Perform behavioral analysis of different genotypes of Drosophila exposed/not exposed to chemotherapy drugs or other pharmacological agents
·Maintain laboratory apparatus and equipment relevant to project
·Acquire working knowledge of fluorescent stereomicroscope and confocal microscope for imaging experiments
·Learn to dissect Drosophila larvae for morphological imaging experiments
·Generate reagents and media relevant to project. Assist with lab Drosophila husbandry.
·Maintain active lab notes with duties and assignments performed
·Other duties as assigned
EDUCATION
Required: Bachelor's degree, major course work in one of the basic sciences.
EXPERIENCE
Required: No experience.
Preferred: Familiarity with genetic analysis and Drosophila genetics in particular.
