Genesee Intermediate School District is Hiring a School Social Worker, Early Colleges Near Flint, MI

The School Social Worker at Early Colleges assists students whose emotional/social problems interfere with their ability to obtain maximum benefit from the educational program. Acts as liaison between parents/guardians, school, and public and private agencies responsible for student care and services.

Essential Duties (May include, but not limited to):

1. Participate in educational support meetings to assist in addressing student social, emotional and behavioral needs.

2. Build capacity within by identifying and responding to behavioral health needs that improve access to mental health resources for students; promoting equitable access to social-emotional learning (SEL) opportunities that will ensure students are ready for a competitive workforce with the goal of sustaining long-term employment.

3. Lead and oversee the SEL component of the Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) for students and faculty. This will involve close collaboration with Early Middle College (EMC) program teachers, counselors, and administration.

4. Provide coaching/consultation to EMC school staff to meet the needs of students in a tiered intervention system with a specific focus on social learning as well as behavior support.

5. Implement SEL programming and interventions to address pandemic related trauma and mental health needs of students experiencing isolation, anxiety, depression, economic instability and family stressors.

6. Collaborate with parents, team members, school personnel and community agencies to address issues that may interfere with student development, learning and school success.

7. Consults, counsels, and collaborates with parents, school personnel, students, and appropriate community agencies regarding behavioral and educational concerns developed in a multi-tiered system of support.

8. Participate in the development of functional behavioral assessments and behavior intervention plans with an emphasis on positive behavioral supports.

9. Report student progress in accordance with Individualized Education Plan (IEP) goals and Medicaid requirements.

10. Develop and provide professional development to staff.

11. Serve on various improvement/development committees within education organizations (both internal and external).

12. Work effectively as a team within Genesee Intermediate School District and community agency staff.

13. Problem solve in a professional constructive manner.

14. Be well organized and work effectively within specific timelines.

15. Remain up-to-date on current methodologies and strategies for instructional programs for students.

16. Utilize existing and evolving technologies appropriately and ethically in compliance with the Genesee Intermediate School District computer use policy.

17. Identify and work to prevent bias, prejudice, discrimination and oppression that interfere with individual rights in the educational process.

18. May provide pre-referral consultation to teachers and administrators regarding students with behavioral and/or adjustment problems.

19. Develops annual goals and short-term instructional objectives for students on the caseload.

20. Provides consultation to parents/guardians regarding family and community adjustment.

21. Serves as liaison between the school and outside social agencies when appropriate.

22. Assists in the development of student behavior management plans, functional behavior assessments, and manifestation determinations.

23. Collects data regarding behavioral intervention plans and services provided to students.

24. Maintains appropriate confidential records on each student referred.

25. Adhere to the Social Workers Code of Ethics at all times.

26. Consistently models Win-Win leadership.

Qualifications:

Education:

Master in Social Work required. Eligible for temporary or full approval as school social worker through the Michigan Department of Education. Must hold valid social work license (P.A. 61 of 2004) through the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA).

Experience:

Prior experience working with secondary students in a high school setting. Successful school social work experience preferred.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $48,435.00 - $85,717.00 per year
