Generation Bio is Hiring a Principal Scientist, Molecular Pathology and Imaging Near Cambridge, MA

SUMMARY:

Generation Bio is seeking an energetic, highly motivated, and creative Principal Scientist to join our Molecular Pathology and Imaging team under Platform Development. This exciting leadership lab-based position will play a pivotal role in the advancement of our non-viral gene therapy platform. The ideal candidate will have experience imaging nucleic acids and lipid nanoparticles to address gene therapy relevant questions, for example cellular uptake, endosomal escape, and nuclear translocation. Expertise in single-molecule localization microscopy using dSTORM, confocal microscopy, quantitative image analysis, and imaging assay development are required. The successful candidate will be expected to explore platform questions using a variety of established imaging approaches, such as RNAScope, as well as lead the development of novel imaging-based techniques. This individual will also be responsible for leading and growing an imaging team to expand internal capabilities. This position will require seamless integration between leading and supporting lab-based work and this individual will be uniquely positioned to drive strategy based on imaging endpoints by contributing to cross-functional team goals. Responsibilities also include CRO management activities. 
RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Inform scientific strategy for non-viral vector-based delivery platform using imaging data.
  • Single point of contact with shared accountability for execution and delivery of imaging data. As an SME analyze and interpret imaging data and present findings in both written and oral formats to cross-functional teams and other stakeholders.
  • Perform qualitative and quantitative image analyses.
  • Maintain awareness of relevant scientific advances in molecular imaging and pathology and apply cutting edge, new approaches where appropriate.
  • Supervise a small team with at least 1 direct report.
  • Develop, evaluate, design, and perform routine and complex immunohistochemistry (IHC), immunofluorescence (IF/FISH), in situ hybridization (ISH, FISH) and multiplex FISH/IHC assays on a variety of in vitro and in vivo samples.
  • Contribute to Improvement in the laboratory operational processes and establish standard operating protocols.
  • Interface externally with collaborators, and management of research performed by CRO(s).

QUALIFICATIONS

  • PhD with minimum of 6 years of related experience, Master’s with a minimum of 10 years related experience, Bachelor’s with a minimum of 12 years related experience
  • Minimum of 2 years of histology lab-based work experience required
  • Industry experience preferred
  • Experience in viral/non-viral gene therapy is highly desired
  • Highly proficient in
    • Super-resolution imaging, confocal microscopy, fluorescent imaging techniques
    • Molecular pathology techniques such as immunohistochemistry (IHC), immunofluorescence (IF/FISH), in situ hybridization (ISH, FISH)
    • Image analysis software packages such as Infirm, ImageJ, Halo
    • Histological techniques including Sectioning (FFPE/Frozen) and H&E staining
  • Familiarity with state-of-the-art imaging technologies such as single-molecule imaging, hyperspectral imaging, and super-resolution imaging desirable
  • Proactive thinking and ability to multi-task to support multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to work in a highly collaborative, team-based environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
