The Role: The Director of Procurement and Strategic Sourcing will develop, advance, and provide leadership and oversight of procurement operations and systems, strategic sourcing, supplier relationship management, and RFP processes. This Director will partner with key cross-functional stakeholders and teams (Research, Clinical, CMC, and G&A), Finance, and Legal, to address supply and service needs for Generate:Biomedicines growing research and development pipeline. This role reports to the Executive Director of Contracts and Strategic Procurement.

Here's how you will contribute:
- The successful candidate will lead and develop a team of procurement professionals and be responsible for the day-to-day successful operations of the team, ensuring a high level of customer service with business users across the Company.
- Establish Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for Procurement Operations and procurement team members.
- Responsible for the development, documentation, implementation, and maintenance of the company’s P2P policies and procedures; continuously improving processes and procedures leveraging our P2P system (Coupa) to deliver operational excellence.
- Develop and oversee a procurement training program for existing and new employees.
- Resolve purchasing related issues.
- Establish and execute R&D sourcing strategies aligned with the company's overall objectives, ensuring effective sourcing of R&D Supplies and services, and delivering cost savings along with other value drivers.
- Develop and manage preferred and other key supplier contracts, negotiate favorable business terms and conditions.
- Build and maintain strong, productive, long-term relationship with vendors with a structured supplier relationship management program.
- Identify and implement continuous strategic sourcing improvement opportunities such as cost reductions, quality improvements, and supplier consolidations/reductions.
- Budget management and reporting and knowledge of Sarbanes-Oxley requirements.
- Bachelor’s degree (BS in a science/technical field preferred) or higher, and 12 years of related Pharma/Biotech experience with a strong understanding of the drug development process. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Strategic sourcing and procurement experience with extensive knowledge of R&D category management and complex contract negotiations expertise.
- Procure to Pay experience/general process knowledge required.
- Proven track record of successful leadership of procurement operations and systems.
- Strong relationship-building skills working with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey strategies and results to a diverse audience at all levels across the organization.
- Exemplary ability to manage cross-functional teams, influence and collaborate effectively, and complete projects based on strict timelines.
- The ability to handle sensitive and confidential situations and information.
- Self-starter who can clearly take initiative, work independently, and make decisions during periods of ambiguity.
- Experience with Coupa is strongly preferred.
- Data driven approach to problem solving and decision making.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, meet deadlines, and balance multiple priorities.
- Independently motivated, detail-oriented, and “can-do” attitude.
