The Role:

The Therapeutic Research team at Generate is expanding! We are seeking a self-motivated Associate Director, Autoimmune Disease Research to oversee cutting edge preclinical research to drive forward autoimmune therapeutic programs at Generate Biomedicines. The successful candidate will lead the autoimmune therapeutic area strategy and lead a team of scientists and RAs to advance autoimmune targeted therapeutics and unlock novel biology using our ML-based approach to drug development. We are searching for an innovative and highly-motivated individual who is comfortable working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment. The position requires interfacing across numerous functions including clinical, commercial, regulatory, tech ops, and project management, as well as protein and computational sciences. The successful candidate will have extensive experience guiding therapeutic research, including direct experience with regulatory filings and translating protein-based therapeutics to the clinic. The candidate should have a sustained record of being a strategic thinker, deep scientist, and a thoughtful people leader.

Here's how you will contribute:

  • Lead the Autoimmune Disease group to identify and build new therapies for treating autoimmune disease.
  • Advance therapeutic leads through key preclinical milestones in partnership with members of the team, including scientists and research associates.
  • Be a resource for end-to-end research advancement (target identification through Phase 1).
  • Think ahead to identify program risks and scientific issues, and build and execute plans to mitigate risks for program advancement.
  • Be a leader for preclinical preparation of regulatory documents including IND and BLA submissions and experienced in response to Health Authority queries related to preclinical studies.
  • Thoughtfully balance business deliverables, scientific opportunities, and team resources to create and sustain a productive and high functioning team.
  • Provide scientific and strategic leadership to the Autoimmune Disease group as well as cross-functionally.
  • Assist in creating a strong inventive and creative culture with a clear sense of urgency for providing transformational therapies to patients.

The Ideal Candidate will have:

  • PhD/9 years of experience in immunology or related scientific discipline and in-depth experience in an industry setting.
  • Strong track record in the discovery and development of new autoimmune therapies including leading project teams and contributing to Pre-IND, IND, and other regulatory filings.
  • Ability to set strategy and lead research projects by planning, designing, and executing multiple, complex research projects that support corporate scientific goals and priorities.
  • A strong leader as evidenced by internal consulting, mentoring, and project team leadership and active support.
  • Maintain expertise through review of current scientific literature, submissions to scientific journals, and attendance and participation at conferences.
  • Demonstrated excellence in a wide array of scientific techniques and methodologies.
