Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Die Shop Supervisor to oversee our manufacturing operations. The die Shop Supervisor will be responsible for leading a team of technicians and ensuring the efficient and safe operation. This is a full-time position with competitive pay.

Candidate must be able to evaluate the die shop, tooling, and equipment as assigned. Coordinate die shop activities and tooling purchases to support production. This task involves participating in die committee review meetings, providing direction for supplier selection and tooling design. All areas shall be based on best practices in achieving quality and productivity. Functional interface will be at all management and hourly levels.

Responsibilities:

• Responsible for all the operations associated with extrusion tooling, including die strip, storage, correction, changing, and preparation activities.
• Assist departmental supervision in reviewing die trials and problem tooling at extrusion press. Provide report of die trials to supervision, management and suppliers as required.
• Respond to the technical requests and communicate with die vendors to provide appropriate answers.
• Maximize the efficiency of the die strip operation with an average turn-around time of 6 hours or less.
• Perform correction on dies as warranted by workload.
• Develop method for triggering communication to Customer Service for determination of part obsolescence.
• Develop daily activity work instructions to be used by other employees for back-up and fill in when necessary. Work instructions should be descriptive and provide an easy to follow task listing.
• Create an equipment list for die shop and develop tooling storage.
• Develop tool status information with support of Extrusion Department and IT Department to support status tracking. Pounds across tooling, pounds to nitride, in house/at vendor, etc.
• Create a list of equipment needed to facilitate a world class die correction shop.
• Direct the efforts of die shop personnel.
• Initiate an apprentice program.
• Track die and vendor performance and recommend options based on the analysis of this data to Director of Engineering. Work to achieve goal of accepted die trials 90%.
• Develop a monitoring system to review die vendor performance on new dies. List should give weighting to complex tooling versus simple tools.
• Monitor the die oven practices such that we do not sacrifice the full life of the dies with improper heating practices.
• Work with Maintenance to ensure press alignment and container functionality are working as required by monitoring, clean out blocks and butt alignment with dies.
• Purchase replacement tooling with necessary modifications documented.
• Review prints for new dies and supply feedback to sales engineering prior to die purchase.
• Communicate with the vendors any necessary changes to the tooling design and feedback from die trials and on-going production
• Minimize the impact of tooling on the costs of the operation.

Qualifications:

• Certification in a tooling related field with appropriate experience will be considered.
• Solid grasp of extrusion tooling designs, corrections, and maintenance.
• Ability to make decisions based on facts, material samples, and press practices.
• Ability to read blueprints/process drawings, (GD&T) Preferred
• Ability to manage multiple projects successfully
• Strong communication skills.
• Technical competence, analytical skills in data analysis & MS Office applications.
• Mechanically inclined · A self- starter, ability to work with limited supervision.
• Ability to work in a team environment.
