Overview

Reports to the Design Supervisor and under general supervision produces timely, accurate, fully professional completion of assigned work. Verifies/procures field information and dimensions on assigned projects, and assists peers in doing the same

Major Position Responsibilities

Depending on area of assignment, performs the following general duties:

•  Prepares complex engineering drawings in one or more of the following disciplines: architectural, civil, structural, concrete, mechanical, piping, electrical, instrumentation, PFD, P&ID, or general drafting.
• Exercises individual judgment in determining such factors as scale, method of presentation, color, drawing layout, etc. Follows established St. Marks drafting procedures and CAD procedures. Is overseen by design supervisor and project engineer to fulfill project scope and meet project schedule, under minimal supervision.
• Performs a variety of design calculations.
• Assists in the installation, debugging and startup of new or modified equipment and facilities. Maintains project progress and interface with craft and construction personnel in the field.
• Assists in preparation of design and equipment specifications, operating procedures and spare parts manuals.
• Performs limited engineering investigations for improving facilities, equipment efficiency, product quality and operation safety.
• May act as drafter from time to time as need arises.
• May replace drafting supervisor in his absence.
• Must communicate effectively with Design Supervisor and Project Engineer on project progress and technical aspects of his assignments.
• With the approval of the design supervisor, may assist project engineers in construction inspection and management of construction activities.
• Participates in efforts to insure vital plant documents, drawings, general construction specifications, standards, etc. are properly maintained.
• Assists the environmental department with surveys, investigations, and data collection.
• Provides training to less experienced draftsmen, designers, and new engineers in Department Procedures and DesignDrafting Procedures.

Basic Qualifications

• Twelve years in industrial design and drafting and field experience.
• Demonstrates consistent improvement in design ability through job knowledge.
• Shows a willingness to handle increased job responsibilities.
• Proves leadership capability.
