Overview

The HM&E Systems Engineering Group is responsible for the integration, design, maintenance, test, and overhaul of the ship’s degaussing system. The group’s primary role is to serve as the lead engineering design agent for VIRGINIA and COLUMBIA class degaussing system ship integration projects. The group also has considerable involvement with various NAVSEA program offices to support submarine design and manufacturing. Engineers in this group are involved with various portions of the degaussing system’s life cycle on a submarine. This includes new technology integration, research and development, obsolescence management and redesign, technology insertions and fleet support.

Each engineer on the team is cognizant of one or more areas of expertise and responsibility. A cognizant engineer at Electric Boat:

Electric Boat offers Flexible Work Arrangements that allows some work to be performed remotely and at home. This varies from position to position based on the amount of classified material the department interacts with, as well as a few other variables. Qualifications

Required

• Bachelor of Science or higher in Electrical Engineering or technical equivalent 
• Organization skills to develop and maintain long term task plans
• Demonstrated ability to work independently
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Technical ability to convey and work complex, multi-faceted tasks
• Proficiency in MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Excel
• Candidate must be from organizations outside of operations (Gildart/Gabriel)

Preferred

• Masters of Science in Systems Engineering or Electrical Engineering
• Knowledge of electromagnetic phenomena
• Project Management or Systems Engineering experience
• Proficiency with MS Project
• Ability to read electrical and mechanical drawings and schematics
• Familiarity with Linux operating systems
• Ability to perform on site support and troubleshooting
• Experience working in cross-functional teams, multitasking, and task ownership
