General Aluminum Manufacturing Company is Hiring a Corporate EHS Manager Near Ravenna, OH

Job purpose

The Corporate Environmental, Health & Safety Manager will provide Environmental, Health and Safety leadership to all facilities within the General Aluminum Group. This individual will be responsible for assisting the locations with developing and implementing solutions that keep our employees safe, ensure regulatory compliance and drive a sustainable safety culture across the organization. The EHS Manager will also work closely with the leadership teams at all facilities providing direction, developing strategies that will drive continuous EHS improvement.

This position has a direct impact on the well-being of all employees and must have in-depth knowledge of safety and health regulations including the ability to effectively communicate with a wide variety of people and influence actions. This role will require you to work independently and possess a high level of interpersonal skills to work across all levels of the organization.

The Corporate EHS Manager will serve as a subject matter expert on all safety, compliance, regulatory and related insurance requirements.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Ensures regular departmental safety audits are performed to detect existing or potential accident / health hazards and environmental risks, determines corrective or preventative measures where indicated and follows up to ensure measures have been implemented.
  • Make recommendations to EHS at plant level on amending safety policies, and procedures ensuring that timelines for completion of corrective actions are met.
  • Continue the development and implementation of Safety Management System to create and maintain a strong safety culture.
  • Guide the plant level EHS Teams to establish and administer EHS policies, procedures and programs across the organization to ensure effectiveness and compliance. Recommend and implement changes in accordance with regulatory updates.
  • Mentor & Train plant level EHS Managers as needed.
  • Assures all safety policies, company policies and procedures are implemented and followed in compliance with government regulations throughout the GAMCO divisions.
  • Ensures that the Environmental Management System certifications are maintained.
  • Serve on corporate and division safety committees; review and discuss safety needs, provide updates, training, DOT, Hazmat, OSHA and related safety and compliance information.
  • Provide subject matter expertise in Process Safety ensuring industry best practice. Responsible for engaging with EPA/OSHA on all complaints, inspections and negotiations following any citations and/or notices of violation. This includes oversight on settlement agreements and associated enhanced abatement corrective actions.
  • Responsible for ensuring all 3rdparty compliance assessments are addressed by overseeing implementation of the associated corrective actions.
  • Provide assistance to all locations to ensure compliance with safety and environmental requirements.
  • Site inspections and corrective action(s):

1. Train and direct management to inspect facilities, work sites and equipment for violations and hazards.
2. Provide direction to management on correcting identified problems in a timely manner.
3. Follow up to make sure all corrective actions were taken and completed.
4. Assist where needed.

  • Responsible for updating, maintaining and auditing location safety standards and procedures on a quarterly basis.
  • Assist in investigating all accidents to determine the root cause and provide recommendations that eliminate or reduce future hazard or risk.
  • Review EHS spending at all facilities and advise on budgets as needed.
  • Track and control inventory of safety supplies and equipment and work with division managers to keep adequate safety supplies on-hand.
  • Review and update MSDS and SPCC plans as needed
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of the safety program using established goals and make recommendations, and implement corrective action(s) based on industry standards and best practices.
  • Conduct an annual training for GAMCO division that promotes a safe, healthy, and secure work environment that includes emergency situations (like tornados, fires), use of the alarm system, and anything else necessary to promote a safe work environment.
  • Serves as a safety/compliance liaison with outside organizations.
  • All other duties as deemed necessary.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, IH or related field required. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of ten years’ experience in any combination of the following areas: Safety Management, Industrial Hygiene, or Environmental Management.
  • 5 years safety management experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem solving skills.
  • Knowledge of statistics, data collection and analysis.
  • Knowledge of federal and state regulations.
  • Proficient in MS Office products.

Working conditions and environment

Office setting with extensive exposure to foundry / manufacturing environment with exposure to high noise, heat, hazards of moving equipment, and molten metal. Must use protective equipment to protect eyes, feet, ears, and potential burn areas.

Normal equipment used

Personal Computers and office equipment. Routine exposure and occasional use of plant manufacturing equipment, forklift, and, basic maintenance tools.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $100,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
