The Engineering Technician I is responsible for performing electrical, mechanical and environmental tests of current and new product designs under close supervision. Conducts continuous improvement activities to reduce the potential for product defects. Involved with problem identification, containment activities, action plan development and execution. Ensure the test requirements for product testing and processes are defined and met. This position includes a 13% Shift Premium. Shift Schedule is Monday-Thursday 1:30pm-11:00pm and Friday 11:00am-3:30pm.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Set up test equipment and products in proper sequence per testing procedures.
  • Use various mechanical, electrical and electronic measurement devices.
  • Assist in assembly and fabrication of test equipment and prototype products per blueprint specifications.
  • Follow guidelines for Bill of Materials.
  • Perform tests on prototypes, existing and competitor products for stated criteria involving mechanical, electrical, environmental and electromechanical functions through ISO 17025.
  • Maintain test-related documentation in, and support administration of, database environment.
  • Prepare formal and informal test reports.
  • Assist with the Generac Engineering Library Audit and organization 5S programs.
  • Actively participate with fellow lab team members in daily maintenance of lab environment and preventive maintenance of lab equipment
  • Support fellow lab team members to execute projects.

Minimal Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1 year experience participating in project teams.
  • 1 year experience using specialized equipment such as engine dynamometers.
  • 1 year experience welding, shaping sheet metal, mill or turning.

Skills/Abilities:

  • Provide own basic set of tools.
  • Ability to work non-standard or extended hours when necessary.
  • Demonstrate testing competence as required per ISO 17025 and lab scope of operations.
  • Basic skills in Microsoft Excel and Word.

Physical demands:While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand. The employee frequently is required to use hands to manipulate objects, tools or controls; and talk and hear. The employee is regularly required to walk; stoop; crouch; bend and reach above shoulders. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds unassisted and up to 100 pounds with assistance, waist high, up to 10 feet away. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to differentiate colors. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be working in the typical conditions of a manufacturing environment including seasonal variation in temperatures and occasional exposure to manufacturing fumes or by-products. The employee must comply with the assigned location PPE requirements including but not limited to safety glasses, hearing protection, appropriate gloves, clothing and shields for required tasks and closed toed or safety shoes as required by facility safety policies.

Pay: $23.89 - $28.64 per hour
