Job Description
On a picturesque 36-acre campus in Plymouth Meeting, PA, Gemma Services Martin Luther School (SS/MLS) offers a holistic approach in addressing the developmental, emotional, educational, and social well-being of children and families. A strong interdisciplinary philosophy guides the dedicated professionals who provide assessment, treatment, and instruction within the context of innovative residential, specialized foster family care, and educational programs.
We are currently seeking a Teaching Assistant for our approved private school. This position requires an understanding of and ability to work with severely emotionally disturbed children, using behavior management techniques and crisis intervention techniques within the policies of Gemma Services Martin Luther School. This is a 12-month shared staff position with our Residential Treatment Facility working in the Residential Treatment Facility before school hours.
Responsibilities include:
Serves as a Mental Health Worker in the Residential Treatment Facility when Gemma School is not in session during spring, summer and winter breaks, and when MLS is closed due to unforeseen circumstances (such as the pandemic). Generally speaking, the non-essential shared staff member does not work holidays or inclement weather days in the Residential Treatment facility.
The position is responsible for providing assistance to teachers and students in the development of strategies to achieve academic, behavioral, and social goals; providing one-to-one supervision of a child; coordinating work within the School, as well as with other divisions/departments.
Complying with operating policies and procedures established for the assigned function
Communicating with appropriate personnel; responding to inquiries or requests for information; maintaining appropriate records and providing assigned reports.
Responsible for running groups with the cluster, assisting students to problem solve and reinforcing positive behavior.
The Teaching Assistant is an active participant in Teaching Assistant and Clinical Services meetings.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Criminal Justice, Social Work, Sociology or related fields preferred. High School Diploma or GED required. One year related experience.
