Position: Assistant Grocery / Dairy Frozen Manager

Reports to: The Grocery Manager and Store Director

Hourly rate based on experience: $17.50 to $21.50 per hour.

Summary:

Assists Grocery Manager in the performance of her or his duties and helps direct Grocery / Diary and Frozen Department personnel to provide the highest standards of service to the store's customers. Trains personnel and supervises all their activities to achieve the sales and profit goals established for the store.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Performs duties in a safe and efficient manner.
• Supports the Grocery Manager directing and monitoring Grocery Department operations.
• Responsible for the performance and supervision of all grocery clerks. Ensures their compliance with store and department policies and procedures.
• Assists in monitoring the receiving and unloading of grocery merchandise to:
  • Ensure that all grocery receiving's accurately reflect the items and counts listed on vendors invoices
  • Ensure accurate billing and pricing
  • Ensure quality, count, and condition of products
  • Enforce receiving procedures according to store policy
• Assists ordering necessary merchandise and supplies for Grocery Department according to store procedures.
• Effectively controls inventory to maximize sales and turnover, and to minimize over- and under-stocks.
• Builds and merchandises displays to obtain maximum sales and profit, ensuring they are neat, colorful, and properly signed.
• Ensures that grocery personnel keep shelves fully stocked, and faced or blocked according to the tag allocation and department standards.
• Directs and supervises grocery staff to keep perishable merchandise rotated in accordance with store policy and product code dates, pulls out-of-code merchandise.
• Ensures that all grocery merchandise is properly priced and that price changes are implemented in a timely manner.
• Ensures Front-End (POS) accuracy and integrity.
• Directs and supervises a regular and effective housekeeping program throughout the Grocery Department.
• Ensures that grocery employees respond promptly to emergencies or potential safety hazards, such as spills and broken glass or containers.
• Assists with performance appraisals, supports a counseling program, and the training of new and existing employees.
• Actively participates in training activities to increase personal skill levels, improving overall store operations and customer service.
• Meets the physical requirements to perform the job functions listed above.
• Other duties may be requested or assigned.

Education/Experience:

• Some college education preferred
• Should have a minimum of at least three years of experience in the supermarket industry
• Should have a comprehensive working knowledge of all aspects of Grocery Department operations
