POSITION SUMMARY

The Medical Coding Team Coordinator oversees daily operations, guides the Coding Team, manages workload, provides training support, and directly supervises RCM Coding employees and Independent Contractors. Responsibilities include auditing records for proper service submission and coding compliance with federal and state regulations.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Within the department, the Coordinator is responsible for processing hospital information, ensuring accurate billing of provider services to patients. This includes applying correct ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes and HCPCS/CPT codes for procedures and services. Thorough record reviews are conducted to confirm patient and record identification, signatures, dates, and other essential data. The Coordinator reviews records for compliance with reimbursement criteria, resolves coding edits and denials, and identifies opportunities for process enhancement.

Leadership and management responsibilities are a key aspect of this role, involving conducting interviews, overseeing onboarding processes, and providing training, coaching, and counseling to staff. The Coordinator addresses performance issues promptly, monitors attendance and time-off requests, and fosters a positive work environment. Additionally, they actively participate in the management team, contributing to best practices and departmental strategy.


QUALIFICATIONS
(Knowledge, Skills, and Ability Requirements)

Qualifications for this position include a minimum of 5 years' experience in hospital and physician practice Revenue Cycle Management, with surgical coding experience being preferred. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential, along with the ability to interact effectively with various stakeholders. The Coordinator should possess analytical skills, a customer-centric approach, adaptability, and resilience in coping with change.


ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS

Working in a normal office environment, the Coordinator must be able to sit for long periods, demonstrating manual dexterity and proficiency in using a calculator and computer keyboard. Flexibility in working hours, including occasional extended hours, is required, with occasional overtime at month-end.
