Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, operate instructional art laboratories; fire, maintain and repair
kilns; formulate ceramic glazes and clay bodies; operate, maintain and repair a wide variety of specialized
equipment including mixers, wheels, welding equipment, and hand and power tools; assist students in the proper
and effective operation and use of a variety of equipment, chemicals and materials used in art courses; order,
receive and store supplies; maintain equipment, inventories, records, and reports; perform duties to support any
and all art department courses and activities as directed.
Distinguishing Characteristics:
This classification provides technical coordination in the studio arts area, specifically ceramics, performing a
variety of standard to difficult duties, including instructional program support, tutoring and administrative
activities, maintaining inventory of glaze materials and clay, and exercising skill in various capacities to
operate, maintain and repair equipment.

the Ceramics program and two years of experience in either educational support work which has included

Physical Characteristics: The physical abilities involved in the performance of essential duties are:
Must be able to perform physical activities such as, but not limited to, lifting up to 50lbs
unassisted, bending, standing, climbing, or walking while performing classroom demonstrations
and experiments. Must be able to safely operate equipment, and handle, store and dispose of
hazardous materials. Working environment is laboratory and classrooms primarily with
exposure to noise from equipment and fumes from chemicals use.
