Position Overview:

The Crime Gun Intelligence Specialist Level I is primarily to support services related by data entry into various formats and databases. This position requires the ability to apply experience and judgment in selecting procedures to be followed and in searching for interpreting, selecting or coding items to be entered from a variety of document sources. They also must possess the skill and ability to analyze, summarize, report, and share information.

Position Duties:

The CGI Specialist Level I shall have experience and ability to perform the following:

Primary Position Duties:

• Utilize NESS for daily entry of local RMS event information associated with ballistic evidence entered into NIBIN, review results, and report on success stories.
• Entering data into charts, spreadsheets, reports, and/or systems.
• Produce basic analytical products.
• Entering or reviewing firearms trace information for use with the ATF e-Trace.
• Provide NESS account support for the creation, maintenance, or disabling user accounts.

Supplemental Position Duties:

• Triaging cartridge casings for entry into (IBIS).
• Entering evidence into Integrated Ballistic Identification Systems (IBIS).
• Performing image and correlation reviews.
• Provide IBIS training, if approved as a NIBIN Authorized Trainer (NAT).
• Handles, operates and test fires a variety of firearms and ammunition following all safety procedures, if approved.

Position Requirements:

• US Citizen with a valid US Driver’s License
• BS Degree from accredited college or university preferred. Combination of formal education, work experience and on the job training will be considered
• General experience with local, State, or Federal law enforcement is preferred but not required
• Must be able to successfully complete the ATF clearance process
• Must be willing to provide a DNA sample as part of employment screening
• Ability to work with and coordinate the efforts of local, State and Federal law enforcement
• Ability to analyze, summarize, report and share information
• Working knowledge of Windows based computer applications and software
• Must successfully pass the competency testing for acquisitions and correlations review after being trained to perform image and correlation reviews on NIBIN equipment
• Occasional travel may be required.
