Position Title: Medical Billing/Coding Specialist
Reports to: Front Office Manager
POSITION SUMMARY: To coordinate all aspects of medical billing and coding with the daily operation of the center activities in accordance with Federal, State and surgery center policies and procedures.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Education/Experience/Licenses/Certificates/Eligibility: High School diploma or GED. Ability to type 40 wpm, use standard office equipment and be computer literate. Knowledge of medical terminology to include CPT codes, ICD-11 codes, Medicare and commercial insurance claims filing and basic bookkeeping, is essential. Minimum one (1) year experience in billing and/or coding REQUIRED, three to five (3-5) years experience PREFERRED. CPC Certification a plus.

Skills/Knowledge/Ability:
Interpersonal: Client oriented. Actively participates in the development of a healthy work environment. Uses interpersonal skills to establish and maintain healthy interpersonal relations, which include functional trust, positive feedback, and constructive criticism. Good communication skills: oral and written.
Critical Thinking: Above average ability to handle multiple simultaneous tasks and phone calls while maintaining a professional courteous demeanor. Must be able to handle patient confrontations in a positive manner. Ability to handle emergency situations and have the ability to develop triage skills. Above average ability to problem solve, solution and detail oriented.
Knowledge: Working knowledge of health care environment and insurance claims processing with computerized software. Knowledge of outpatient surgery forms, policies and procedures, EOB's, claims appeals, electronic medical claims filing and insurance verification.
MACHINE, EQUIPMENT, WORK AIDES: Computer, printer, copier, telephone and fax.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Subject to busy office requiring above average ability to prioritize and organize. Some overtime may be required.
