This position is based at the Gateway Institute for Research offices and laboratory in the Center for Collaborative Research on the Nova Southeastern University campus in Davie, FL and is an onsite work environment.
Gateway Institute for Brain Research is an international cutting-edge clinical-stage research center dedicated to improving the quality of life for those diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease, and other neurological conditions. The mission of Gateway Institute for Brain Research is to cure Parkinson’s Disease. We approach this mission through a combination of in-house research, private sponsorship, and inter-institutional collaboration with the goals of expediting the development of novel treatments and fostering scientific understanding.
Position Description:
Gateway is seeking a self-motivated and creative scientist with superior organizational skills to participate in the expansion of its cellular modeling and screening capablities. The candidate will work closely with colleagues within the laboratory and with members of cross-functional teams to move projects forward according to specific goals and timelines.
The goal of the laboratory is to test interventions aimed at reducing or eliminating Parkinson’s Disease-related cellular injuries. The in vitro lab works closely with the Gateway computational biology and modeling teams to identify potential molecules and targets for in vitro testing. This work involves development and validation of cellular models of PD and cellular injury. Cell models include various cell lines, cell co-culture models, and patient-specific iPSC-derived neurons. The laboratory is also responsible for the development and validation of analytical assays to monitor cell state, injury and response to injury. These assays in use include ELISAs, enzymatic assays, western blots, PCR, Mass Spectrometry-based assays, Flow Cytometry, Immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, Agilent Seahorse assays, bulk and single-cell RNA-Seq, etc. Candidate interventions with successful outcomes are transferred to Gateway’s Translational team for pre-clinical and clinical testing.
