Since 1979, Gateway shelters have provided caring, comprehensive services and safe shelter to adults and dependent children fleeing domestic violence. Our 24/7 shelters offer licensed counseling, emergency and extended-stay care, and court advocacy services for victims of domestic violence and their families, in Arapahoe County, Colorado.

THE OPPORTUNITY
Under the direction of the Emergency Shelter Director, our Advocate for Children and Families – Domestic Violence provides case management services to victims of domestic violence that include crisis intervention, intake services, individual emotional support, advocacy and crisis line support. Our Advocates are adept at handling crisis situations and working with diverse populations, and help to maximize a child’s overall well-being in the midst of a potentially traumatic time.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

  • Crisis intervention, screening, and assessment services to victims of domestic violence, including intake into our residential services.
  • Complete child assessments with parent and child.
  • Provide structured activities for children on a regular weekly basis and provides them with age-appropriate information on domestic violence.
  • Provide parenting resources to parents.
  • Provide advocacy and follow up services for children and parents.
  • Completes child abuse reports, when necessary, in a timely manner and in compliance with mandatory reporting laws.
  • Provides advocacy support and serves as a liaison between local agencies and clients on an emergency basis.
  • Understands trauma informed care and how to use it in crisis situations while providing emotional support.
  • Lead psycho-educational groups.
  • Maintains complete client files, including standard forms and progress notes.
  • Interacts with clients and resolves disputes using mediation skills.
  • Responsible for proper safety precautions and security procedures.
  • Develops awareness of community resources available to referral partners.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO OUR ORGANIZATION

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Counseling, Social Work or related field preferred, but related work experience will be considered.
  • A minimum of one-year experience in human services area with experience in crisis intervention, including a working knowledge of the dynamics of domestic violence is preferred.

  • Has a knowledge of trauma informed care relating to domestic violence.
  • Values DEI and advances equity throughout the organization.
  • Has a positive attitude and openness to supporting people in crisis.
  • Has the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Works effectively as part of a team to deliver overall services.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • CPR and First Aid certified, preferred.
  • Bilingual skills a plus.

WHAT OUR ORGANIZATION IS PROVIDING

  • Expected hourly pay range of $20.30-$21.75.

We receive more than 9,000 crisis calls a year, provide 10,000+ nights of residential care for families and their pets. We assist with 2,000+ court advocacy cases for domestic violence victims. The short-term facility in Aurora has 24 beds; our other (long-term) facility in southern Arapahoe county has a 15-bed capacity. Gateways North residential program offers a 45-day program for women and children fleeing domestic violence. Our South residential program offers extended stay for up to 90 days.
