Gateway Community Service Board is Hiring an Instructor I Near Hinesville, GA

Job Summary: Under close supervision, assists an instructor/teacher with providing comprehensive educational, functional training and/or program to consumers/students. Prepares instructional materials and maintains order and cleanliness in the learning environment. Uses observational skills to remain aware of changes in the behavior and physical condition of consumers/students. May assist with meal preparation, field trips, transportation and other activities. May serve on committees.

  • Assists instructor in maintaining an effective learning environment.
  • Assists in providing direct instruction to consumers.
  • Assists in providing appropriate, functional training activities for assigned consumers.
  • Obtains and/or prepares instructional materials/aids for consumers.
  • Assists consumers with meeting and maintaining individual physical needs.
  • Completes documentation of consumer’s progress.
  • Provides appropriate information to and/or participates in interdisciplinary team conferences.
  • Assists with meal preparation, feeds consumers when necessary and assists with leisure time activities.
  • Safely operates motor vehicles to transport consumers.
  • Serves on assigned committees.
Required Knowledge & Skills
  • Knowledge of State, local and federal guidelines in order to modify existing programs and the development of new programs in response to changes in the guidelines.
  • Knowledge of personal hygiene and care.
  • Knowledge of basic housekeeping.
  • Ability to observe and monitor resident’s behavior.
  • Ability to assist and supervise participants with daily living activities.
  • Ability to develop individualized plans.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle efficiently and safely.
  • Ability to provide training and /or orientation services to participants.
  • Ability to participate in supportive guidance, staff supervision sessions, program planning meetings, resident staffing and service training.

Required Education & ExperienceHigh school diploma or GED. Must possess a valid GA driver’s license and be at least 21 years of age. Must be able to pass a pre-employment criminal history, MVR and drug test.

Work EnvironmentThis job operates in a variable office settings with trips into the community. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Some minor travel between Gateway sites and in the community is required.
Physical DemandsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
Employee is frequently required to walk, sit, stand or kneel and occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop. Employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 15 pounds. Must have the ability to sit for long periods of time at a computer. Employee frequently uses fine hand/eye coordination, hearing and visual acuity. Lighting and temperature are adequate, and there are not hazardous or unpleasant condition caused by noise, dust, etc. Employee must be able to travel between Gateway sites.
